What do you guys think?http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/rvs/4704094587.html This just got posted and I am thinking that it is a good deal and what I want. I am very nervous about buying something that is going to have issues, though. Anyone know anything about this model? Any luck/bad luck with this year engine and drive train? Is it a good deal? Seems low retail NADA is about 1-2 grand over what he/she is asking. Anyone know what all of those numbers are at the bottom of the ad? I want to get a consensus before I call this person, because I may just tell him I'm on my way, hit the bank, and go buy it. Thanks for any help. Very appreciated.Re: Brakes? Turbo Diesel Dude wrote: I think that anything over 1000 lbs has to have brakes. JMHO Thanks for the reply. So then, would most TT's, especially the newer ones, which weigh 4K-5K LBS come with brakes? And maybe just aren't listing them in the ads because it is just standard? westend wrote: The brake requirement threshold seems to be around 3000 lbs. I don't know which "bracket" you are referring to but whole brakes with backer plate can be purchased and are not that expensive. Check Etrailer for pricing and installation instructions. Thanks. I think you might have just answered my question. So basically, most travel trailers will just accept bolt on brakes with no welding or such? Thanks again guys. I really do appreciate the help.Brakes?Hi guys, I am thinking about buying a travel trailer to pull with a mid 2000's F150 with a 4.6 V8, and tow package. I am looking for something small, around 18 foot and 4K-5K pounds. I'm concerned with braking. Most of the trailers in the size range I am looking at do not come equipped with brakes. I have looked at some videos on installing trailer brakes and all of the videos assume that there is a bracket already in place to mount the brakes. Am I going to have to drive out to every trailer I am contemplating purchasing (which could be 1-3 hours away) and inspect each one to see if they have this bracket, or is this something that I can just assume that a mid 2000's year travel trailer will have, and then just double check when I get there? Or do I even need brakes? Also, the hitch weight of most of these is around 350, and truck is rated for 500. Should I be safe and get a distributing hitch thing? Thank you in advance for any help. PS any advice on towing, DIY brake install, price to have installed, etc... will be greatly appreciated.Re: Looking for battery charger advice. pianotuna wrote: Hi, What will the power from the batteries be used for? Run a TV, lights, maybe a fan, charge laptops, etc...Re: Looking for battery charger advice.OK, I am looking at this generator and see that it comes with a 12volt charging cable. How bad would it be for a standard RV type deep cycle battery to just hook it up directly to the generator? I wonder how many amps it would be putting into the battery, charge times, etc... Edit: OK, I see that those DC ports are for emergency use basically http://www.fridge-and-solar.net/gen_charge.htmRe: Looking for battery charger advice. smkettner wrote: Have you ruled out solar? Otherwise a 30 amp IOTA with IQ controller should do fine with Honda 1000 and possibly an extended run fuel tank. Thanks. I found it on Amazon and bookmarked it. My problem now is, all of the cheaper generators I am seeing seem to be somewhat problematic. I am leaning more toward the $1K Honda EU200i, but I really, really don't want to spend that amount.Re: Looking for battery charger advice. dockmasterdave wrote: Does it need to be an inverter type, if all you are doing is charging batteries? I was thinking the inverter type because of how quite, efficient, small, etc... they are.Looking for battery charger advice.Hi guys, This is not really for an RV so to speak (going in the van), but I am looking at purchasing a small, inexpensive inverter generator to charge a 60-120 A battery bank. That is all the gen will be used for. I really want a Progressive Dynamics with the charge wizard, but the smallest they have is 45 amp, which pulls 725 watts, which would mean that I would need to get something like the Honda 2000i to run it, which at a grand is over kill for me and this application. So, any advice on a good charger that will pull around 400-500 watts? Advice on a cheap inverter generator welcomed as well. I really don't want to spend a lot on this set up, but I am not seeing too many options that are reliable, etc... Thanks in advance.Post your motorcycle tow solution.Diesel pushers are easy, just get a motorcycle lift like Blue Ox. But what about Class A Gasser. Blue Ox has a formula sheet to figure out if their lifts will work, but there are a lot of variables, and even then, they suggest adding airbags. Just seems like asking for trouble with a gasser. Thinking about one of those swivel wheel trailers But I am not too sure about them. Plus, I read one account of using this trailer, and the guy said he liked it, but his bike was filthy upon arriving at his destination (not sure why - exhaust? Tire kick up?). Thinking of going traditional trailer rout, but it seems that pulling off to a store, an attraction, etc... would be even more difficult than usual, and sometimes impossible. So, how do you tow your bike? What are your experiences?Dual vs Single AC units.Hello everyone, Concerning dual AC units in, let's say, a 34' class A, is it common to be able to only run one of the units in the main area, and just shut the door to the bedroom? Does this situation differ when they are ducted vs non ducted? I'm worried about how much electric dual units will use staying at a park, in the summer time (90+ degrees, direct sun). Thanks in advance for any help.
