Budget to outfit new 5th wheel?
Can anyone give me an idea of how much I should budget to outfit a new fifth wheel toy hauler? While I know the sky’s the limit, I’m wondering about basics such as water/sewer hoses, leveling blocks, and whatever other non-discretionary basics a person needs.2.7KViews0likes10CommentsHigh end bumper pull toy hauler
We’ve been looking for a toy hauler for our family of five, and after a lot of consideration we have realized that the bumper pull fits our needs better than a fifth wheel. This is based upon the fact that we are big fans of boondocking, sometimes accessing spots down rough national forest roads with clearance issues from trees, etc. Our tow vehicle is a 1 ton Cummins Ram with air suspension, so there is no capacity issue for pulling. We just bought a 2020 SRW Ram 3500 mega cab (the cab is a godsend with 3 kids), and it only came in a short bed. With five of us riding in the truck and the desire to pull a decent sized toy hauler payload is an issue. If your payload capacity is really only 1950lbs, you're going to have limited choices for a 5th wheel, especially one for 5 people. I assume that a bunkhouse model is what you want. After you subtract the weights of the 5 people, 5th wheel hitch and truck cargo, from your 1950 number, that's all you will have for the LOADED pin weight of the 5th wheel. Truck payload vs loaded pin weight is what you should be focusing on first, before gross trailer weight. I’d like to add airbags to my rear suspension on my Ram 2500 diesel to level my truck when I’m towing, but don’t really feel I need to be able to control them from the cab and don’t want to go through an expensive and involved installation of a full system with a permanent compressor.
