I have been looking for sometime for a solution to the problem and I have seen many RVers do a number of different things. I combined many ideas to build my own that I think are pretty intuitive. I have a few videos that detail the entire process of building and installation. They can be found at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAhiOCaHewU&t=983s And https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzUU4To5wWI It is not a short video set as I went through everything start to finish that a person would need to do to build my kind of stabalizers. Video 3 is now complete: https://youtu.be/zrJ72m8iHRk I hope it is useful to someone else, I couldn't find anything out there like what I needed so I decided to design my own. Best regards, GrubRe: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012Hi all,I wanted to take a moment to share a project that I have used in my RV that I made from a post here way back 100 pages ago. I love it, it was a bumper towel drying clothesline. I did not have metal fabricating equipment to make mine, so improvised. The version that I settled on is made out conduit, wood, copper and steel, see below: I have also created a YouTube tutorial on how it works and how you could easily make it. I have learned so much from the RVers on here and other sites that I felt compelled to pay it forward. I hope you enjoy! YouTube Video: RV Bumper ClotheslineRe: CB radio vs. cell phone vs. HAM RadioThanks again for all the great info. I am likely to buy a sat phone in the future. I am looking for road info from my cb. What do you al think about the Uniden BEARCAT 880 Bearcat CB With a Wilson lil wil? Or should I go with a fire Stick? Thanks again, GrubRe: CB radio vs. cell phone vs. HAM RadioThanks to all for their quick feedback. I am likely to buy a cb just to listen in on the chatter as we drive down the road and look for advice on road issues. I will either look to buy a sat phone or rent one. We will be out and about for abou 3 weeks and it will be quite exspensive to rent, might as well just buy one knowing that we do this every year in some capacity and not having a connection to the world reduces the amount of time we can stay away out. Most campsite we stay at have wifi, but poor cell phone coverage. Thanks again to all and happy rving! GrubRe: wifi antenna Rbertalotto wrote: I agree with Bill Satellite above. I have both the ALFA system from TechnoRV.com and this system http://www.irv2.com/forums/f53/personal-high-powered-rv-wi-fi-for-under-100-tutorial-229340.html . Both work great but the Ubiqity system is easier to use once you have it set up. If there is a McDonalds, Starbucks, Panera Bread or hundreds of other high quality wifi spots near the campground, use them instead of the crappy campground wifi. I also have the ubiquity system and it has outperformed my expectations. I have created my own antenna to raise it up above all the obstructions in all campsites. Amazingly helpful when I was completing my last graduate courses down on the outer banks. 250 feet from the closest hot spot, no problem. I also highly recommend this, I would do it again in a heart beat. Best of luck, GrubCB radio vs. cell phone vs. HAM RadioHI all, I wanted to tap the resources of the forum here for suggestions on traveling in remote areas. Years ago, I traveled through Montana, Idaho and Wyoming and went several days without cell phone service. I will be embarking on a journey out west to glacier national park and yellowstone. I am expecting cell phone service to be far better than before but it will stil be limited and likely non existant in many areas we will be in. I want a back up in case an emergency happens as we will be traveling with our children any you never know when help will be needed for one thing or another. I have plenty of time to get licensed as a HAM radio operator if that would be the best option. I would like suggestions on best back up, either a CB radio or HAM radio or is both the right option? Any an all feedback are appreciated. Best regards, GrubRe: Towing with Silverado...am I delusional?Update: I found a used 2500hd with the 6.6 Duramax diesel. I am very happy so far. It is all I could ask for. I spoke to the guys in the shop and they said no problem with the cart. I have an old Ez sway, sway bar stabilizer with a 2in hitch. My new receiver is a 2.5. I bought a reducer and the holes don't align, go figure! Is it ok to drill through the hardened steel to make it fit? Or should I bite the bullet and order the overpriced adapter from Chevy? I can't wait till our first weekend out in June. Thanks for all your help. GrubRe: Towing with Silverado...am I delusional?I have read leaving the top on can be dangerous. I will read more about it when the time arises. I am considering a 2500HD with 6.6 Diesel. 3500's in single wheels are hard to find. I am also thinking about adding a air lift load lifter 500 to balance the load. Do you think it will help the suspension out to make it workable? Thanks, GrubRe: Towing with Silverado...am I delusional? 270wsmhunter wrote: 3500 diesel will treat you right, regardless of brand. I like ours but sometimes wish we had gotten it with "hips" (dual rear wheels). If I was loading a cart in the back and towing a trailer I'd like to have as much rubber back there as possible, but that is me and I am overcautious. Heck, I use a 3500HD to haul cardboard boxes to the recycling center!! I am not really interested in dual wheels, I won't be able to get it in the garage or my parking spot at work. I also don't like the look of the drw. Thanks, GrubRe: Towing with Silverado...am I delusional? atomlinson wrote: I'll let ya know how it goes, Grub. Just recently bought a '14 3500HD SRW gasser, and we're hauling the TT and golf cart down to Florida in June. I am excited to hear how this goes for you. That is basically what my aim is. I will be Checking on your progress later in the summer. Do you plan to take the top off? Thanks, Grub
