I agree that it says pickups can be personal use. But the unless mentioned in other parts of 502 part is where the b/s comes in. I have a GVWR of 10,650 and Curb weight of 6800 roughly so it seems like registry is enforcing those stipulations on me. I have the truck love it and it is registered and insured. I may pursue it further but right now I want to enjoy it. The insurance is not that much more and I do not require DOT numbers because it is personal insurance and do not plan on towing anything except my camper so should be good to go for a while.Re: GVWR over 10k on new truck, need commercial plates? Turns out my insurance agent set it up for personal vehicle insurance with commercial tags. She told me the registry requires commercial plates because of curb weight and GVWR by the VIN, but going the personal policy insurance options saves me money from commercial, a lot actually. Anyway excited to pickup the new tow rig and hopefully start looking at new fifth wheels or upgrading travel trailer!!! That is the important part. Don't go with the commercial plates, you do not need them and may regret this later. If you are not using the truck for commercial purposes, get passenger plates. I have a 3500 with a GVWR of 11,700 and I have passenger plates. I am in MA too. Tell your insurance person how you want it done and make them take care of it. Good luck What insurance company do you have? Safety wrote my policy for personal and would ok passenger plates but RMV said no. Gotta love the Registry! My insurance agent said that is the best they can. Mass RMV requires commercial plates for this weight. I know there was some cutoff date in 2019 per my google searches, so maybe you can be grandfathered in? I have known my agent since kindergarten so I trust that she did her due diligence on this. I also dropped off paperwork yesterday and the manager said that personal insurance and commercial plates is the best you can do for GVWR and Curb weight over 6k. To be honest I have come to terms with it and think it may not be a big deal. I may go to registry once COVID is over (if ever) and plead my case.Re: GVWR over 10k on new truck, need commercial plates?Thank You all for the advice. I am in Massachusetts and can not seem to find clear cut info on it. There must be someone who knows how this all works. I do not own a business and want to use it for personal use only. Anyone know if there is an exemption or work around in Massachusetts? ThanksRe: Advice for a newbieBy "such" i meant sewer and gray water. As far as dry camping idk how much i will do that this year. Thanks for the inputRe: Advice for a newbieBy "such" i meant sewer and gray water. As far as dry camping idk how much i will do that this year. Thanks for the inputAdvice for a newbieSo in August, sorta of on a whim i bought a 2018 Gulf Stream Friendship 275FBG (29'10") Trailer. The trailer was barely used at all, and our family is really excited to use it. My current truck is a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, rated to pull 9400lbs and a payload of 1710lbs. If my math works it should be plenty of truck, but would like a second opinion or two. Tongue weight is 690lbs, figured another 100 for Husky Center line setup and 135lbs for fuel, should leave in the 800lb range for me my wife and 4 and 7 year old kids. We all add up to around 450 so think that leaves some room but not a lot for stuff in the truck. The trailer dry weighs 4738 and caps out at 7700lbs. I never plan on towing fully loaded (water tanks and such), but just curious if i am figuring this out right. I towed it 80miles one way already felt good on highway and did not get blown around. It felt good actually and a couple times I looked in the rear view and forgot it was there. Any Advice or tips would be appreciated.
