The net effect is that it shortens the cable just enough so that it can't get tangled up in anything. If it is long enough to drag on the way tubes IMHO that is way too long. I have a friend whose break away cable got tangled up on the hitch, and when he made a sharp turn it tightened up and pulled the cable out of the socket and locked the trailer brakes in the middle of a busy intersection. His comment was "I know now that the emergency trailer brakes work REAL good" It took a few minutes to untangle it and plug it back in so they could get moving.Columbia Falls to WatertonWe will be staying at Columbia Falls for a week in September and plan to spend a day on the "Red Bus" tour of Glacier up to Logan Pass and back. We visited Glacier 30 years ago but did not go to Waterton on our way to Banff on that trip. We were thinking about going driving over to Waterton and I have two questions. Is it worth the effort to go to Waterton, and would it be entirely nuts to try to do a day trip from Columbia Falls to Waterton and back in one day? I think I know the answer to the last part of the question, but I still would like your opinions. Thanks!Re: Recliner replacements?First let me say that I am a life long hard core Lazy Boy fan. I am a big guy and learned early on to not buy cheap furniture. The day we picked up our first fifth wheel (new) we drove straight to the Lazy Boy store and picked out and bought a recliner we had previously selected and made them take the back off and put it in the RV. We loved the chair, but it was just not made for an RV. I was a wall away but I don't know if it was a Pinnacle model or not. After about 2 years I finally admitted I had made a mistake and we ordered a couple of Euro style Palliser brand recliners, and we loved them and enjoyed the until we traded trailers. They wouldn't match our new trailer so we had the dealer keep the recliners that came with the new rig and we ordered new Palliser chairs for the new trailer and we really like them. I still use Lazy Boys at home but they were just too big and heavy for our RV. Just my 2 bits worth.Folding entry door handle coverThe cheap rubber/foam cover on my main entry door folding handle is comming off. Any body found a good durable cover for the handle. It is 1" diameter and it would be easy to slip a new cover on but I don't know what to use. A Quick internet search reavled nothing. Any suggestions?Re: Real dark paneling...We traded rigs a couple of years ago and the dark interior (some even with black interior) was the #1 deal breaker. We wouldn't even go inside to look if it was cave dark. But they sure make a lot of them these days, and they do it because they sell. I guess we are in the minority, but as the saying goes "different strokes for different folks". Buy what you like and travel and enjoy it!Allegro Bus fog lights won't turn offI have recently widowed friend and I am trying to help her get her 2000 Allegro Bus ready to sell. She was cleaning it up and noticed the front fog lights were on, and she can't figure out how to turn them off. She took it to a mecahnic and he traced the wires to a small box that was labeled 'pilot' but he could not figure out how to turn them off, so they disconnected the wiring to get them off. Anyone have any suggestions how to turn them off? Thanks!Re: Slide toppers or not?Our first rig had them, and on occasion I have gotten up in the middle of the night and ran the slide in because I was tired of hearing them flap. If you don't travel in a windy area I think I would like them more. Having said that I got tired of looking a dirty sagging awnings so I didn't get them on my current rig. As with anything there are pluses and minuses. BTW I carry a good air compressor and I rigged a 6' curved nozzel to blow any trash or leaves off the top of the slide just in case it needs it. (which it hardly ever does)Re: Fuel PricesI just filled up with diesel at a Wal-Mart this morning in the Texas panhandle for $3.41. Happy happy happy! (and surprised)Re: Putting stuff in the black and/or grey tanks?Check out You Tube for a video on the old trick of putting Ice in a black water holding tank. Not very effective to say the least, but your results may vary..... Just saying....Re: Slideout ProblemCheck your hydraulic resevoir with the slide all the way in. It should have a "full" mark somewhere. If it is full of fluid when retracted and then it won't extend all the way, you probably have an obstruction or a limiter that is out of adjustment. DO NOT run it out half way and fill the reservior with oil because when it is retracted the excess oil has to go somewhere, and you won't like it when it runs over or breaks something displacing the oil. Been there done that and it was a real "duh" moment for me.
