As fate would have it, we found a good deal on a beastly F350 that might have been overkill, but it left us free to shop *all* 5th Wheels and not worry about weight. We can also easily trade up in the future, at least this was the thinking at the time. As is, we scored an old Prowler for a price that was just criminal, but it's all steel and wood and dang heavy, so good thing we had the towing capacity.Re: Think I will keep mine a little longerWe are newbies, just bought a cheap used 5th wheel for cash to practice on. It's old, so we're getting a lot of practice! We were just debating the merits of investing in a "real" RV, a newer used one, but... Old Junkie meets all our needs and it is still in good condition. She's kinda heavy, and she ain't too pretty, but trading feels like an unneccessary vanity. I'd rather spend the money on going places with Junkie and doing things once we get there. ...of course, there's no harm in looking at the fancy new ones, just to admire them. ;)Re: B & W Hitch glazier wrote: StumpyWilson wrote: Because the internet is mostly anonymous, I have no problem admitting that I once forgot to put the truck in park before trying to unhitch the trailer... so, there I am, standing on the back tire to reach into the bed of the truck, completely unaware that the truck is actually pulling against the thing a bit as it is trying to roll down a slight slope away from the trailer. Nothing happened when I pulled the pin. That story could have ended bad, glad you didn't get hurt, or tear something up. It was very scary at the time, of course. Afterwards, with no persons or property harmed, I could appreciate the humor of my running frantically alongside my vehicle shouting "oh s#*t, oh s#*t, oh s#*t!"Re: B & W Hitch fj12ryder wrote: I've done it and it never opened. I forgot to put the pin in and drove out of the campground and down the road and at the stop sign to get on the main road remembered. No issues. If that hitch is latched, it's latched! I have no desire to see if the arm would eventually swing far enough open to unhitch, but I really don't think it would. Hope I never find out. :) Because the internet is mostly anonymous, I have no problem admitting that I once forgot to put the truck in park before trying to unhitch the trailer... so, there I am, standing on the back tire to reach into the bed of the truck, completely unaware that the truck is actually pulling against the thing a bit as it is trying to roll down a slight slope away from the trailer. Nothing happened when I pulled the pin. HOWEVER, I hardly touched the arm before it swung open and all heck broke loose, my footing rolled out from under me and I had to run alongside my truck in a panic to jump in the open driver door. I'm sure the scene was hilarious from a third-party perspective. Don't try that at home, kids.
