We're hoping that you can point us to the right park.Re: Safety at Big Bend National ParkYou will see on the BBNP website/map that they have various locations where you can disperse camp for a small fee. Many are accessible with 2wd. You will find that everything in the park is at least a 25 mile drive. We stayed just outside the west entrance at the first private campground. It isn't much but it's cheap and the owners are super nice people.Re: Boondocking with other people aroundGary, We boondock all over the SW. You are going to love it. Starting out in Quartzsite is a great idea. While there you will probably talk to lots of people and get lots of ideas. A couple of easy, nearby spots that will have other boondockers are the Senator Wash Area N32.88270°, W114.48642°, and Ogiby Rd area N32.834°, W114.838°. Your first year you may want to use the BLM LTVA long term visitor areas. Buy the permit and stay at any of them as long as you want. https://www.blm.gov/documents/arizona-colorado-river-do-california-california-desert-do/public-room-frequently-0 https://www.blm.gov/documents/arizona-colorado-river-do-california-california-desert-do/public-room-frequently-requested https://www.blm.gov/documents/arizona-colorado-river-do-california/public-room-frequently-requested/brochure/long-termRe: RV parks on Hammond side with New Orleans shuttle? We stayed at Bayou Segnette State Park, very nice. Get a map/directions from them to get to the ferry. It is 10 mile away and you will need good directions to find it but it is worth doing. It cost $2 each. You can park on the street or a private parking lot $5 weekdays, $10 weekends.Re: First trip down Trace to NatchezOn the trace at mm 122 we stopped at Cypress Swamp and enjoyed a 20 minute walk on a nice trail. At Natchez, ms The visitor center is worth going to. They will let you stay on the parking lot at least a couple of days. Lots of 20A outlets, one 30A outlet. Water and dump. Take some boards to level with. We went to the mansions of Rosalia, Stanton Hall, Longwood, (no pictures allowed) & Melrose (pictures OK). They’re all very nice. If I had to pick one I guess it would be Melrose. We really liked the Oak Alley Plantation but it is 2 hours S. of Natchez. The Cotton Alley restaurant was VERY GOOD, a little pricey. We really enjoyed the Rolling River restaurant. The food was good and they had live, local music every night.Re: Where to buy Michelin 22.5" Tires in Tucson AZWe just got into Tucson and got parked. I want to thank everyone for their suggestions. I will pursue each of them. I can go on to the Phoenix area if the deals are better there. Thank you very much.Where to buy Michelin 22.5" Tires in Tucson AZI am hoping someone can tell me the best place to buy Michelin 235/80R 22.5 in Tucson AZ. We are traveling through and we are not familiar with the businesses in Tucson. Thank you for your help.Re: Dispersed camping Valley of the GodsWe were there several months ago. There are some nice boondocks along the park road on the east side a few miles from the entrance. Just past the west entrance is a large parking lot. This is where we spent 1 night. We had it all to ourselves. You can stay at Goosenecks SP for about $15 a night (no hookups).Re: Why to Organ Pipe CactusThe place that scrubjaysnest is talking about is a great, well known boondocking sight called Gunsight Wash. It's about 2 milse south of Why on the west side just after you cross a large wash. N32° 14.342', W112° 45.037' Drive past the pile of gravel and through the open gate. Plenty of room, flat, solid ground, quiet & peaceful. http://wheelingit.us/2014/02/12/boondocking-site-review-gunsight-wash-blm-why-az/Re: What do you set your house heat at when leaving for winter? We set the furnace at 55. We have a ventless gas fireplace in the LR set at 50, and a ventless gas stove in the basement set at 50. If the furnace fails (power outage) the fireplace and stove will keep it warm. We also have our fire alarm and a temperature sensor connected to a Dakota Alert Auto Dialer. If the fire alarm goes off or the temp gets to 45 it will dial 9 phone numbers. So far we have always left the water on. http://www.dakotaalert.com/catb2b1/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=67
