We've had it about six years after previously owning a gasser (Fleetwood Southwind - sold it with 214k miles on it!) Our Bus has been wonderful. Single slide-out with plenty of room. Take a look at the Tiffin family as well.Re: Servicing waste gate valves ( Greay and black water valves)My Allegro Bus is plumbed in a similar fashion. Changed my last year. Plan to pull both valves out as an assembly with the center "T" section. Easier to remove together, and service both valves even if the other doesn't appear to nned servicing.Re: Financing an older MHAgree - Cash is the best way. I certainly would not put my house on the line just for a vehicle. If it takes a loan to purchase an older Class A, especially a diesel pusher, then your really can't afford the upkeep on one either. Save for awhile and search for an older Class A gasser to start with then move up a few years later.Re: Residential RefrigeratorOK - We're convinced now too! So much so we pulled our Nevercold out this weekend and slid in a residential fridge. Still need to finish up the trim in the coming days. So now what to do about the condenser airflow. Most of these fridges pull air in through the lower front grill (under the doors), it flows across the coils, then is directed across the condensation pan and back out the front. Do we seal up the outside vents? Do we seal up the roof exhaust vent? Redirect the cooling flow out the wall vent? Thanks!Water Heater RemovalI need to remove the 10 gal water heater from our Allegro Bus - a welded joint on the tank let loose. Anybody here have experience removing one of these? Tips? Thanks!Re: roof air for 30 amp serviceOur '94 Southwind has two rooftop units but just 30 amp service. We rewired the rear AC unit with a transfer switch so the unit runs from a separate 20Amp connection at the post. We have always been able to run both units with the generator. Adding the transfer switch to the rear unit allows us to continue running both on the gen set. We made the wiring change at the junction box near the generator.Re: How nimble is a 35' Class A motorhome?I guess I'll be the odd man out here about your questions. We've put 70,000+ miles on our 37' Southwind - all WITHOUT a towed vehicle! We've visited historic sites, busy downtown areas, various campgrounds, etc. I was extremely familiar with the capabilities of our Southwind so never ran into any troubles getting in or out of locations. And yes, there were times we would be staying for several nights but would pull out each morning to go sight seeing or the event/attraction we were interested in. We are always on the go so we plan accordingly. No need to hook up sewer just for a night, sometimes don't even hook up water - just power. Sure makes it easier to pull out in the mornings, and shorter set up in the evening when you have to get all the "stuff" out. Now with our new-to-us Tiffin Allegro Bus it does take a little bit longer but we still operate the same way, and we're not pulling a toad. Who knows, may be in a few years when the last of our kids stop traveling with us maybe we will start towing. But for now, traveling without towing sure is easy!Re: reflooring a motorhomeYes! Check your your MH slide configuration. Slides on carpet typically have steel rollers while slides operating on tile or laminate typically use plastic rollers. They can be changed for your new surface if they're steel. Some MH slide-out rollers are easier to change out if you need to change them. Post your MH brand/model and others may reply with their experiences changing the flooring.Re: Insurance for older coachesAs long as your driving record meets their requirements they seem to insure about anything. Our previous MH was 1994 Southwind with 214,000 miles - it didn't matter to them.Re: To buy a dash camera or notThe "Windshield Witness" dash cam is designed specifically for what you are talking about. They do NOT record GPS speed (or any kind of speed reference) because this can be used against you very easily. You may not have been speeding at the moment of the accident, but if they find you were speeding prior to the accident they will state you arrived at the accident location "because" you were previously speeding. If you had not been speeding earlier you would have arrived at the accident location AFTER the other person had passed. Interesting logic approach but quite appropriate. The video is continuously date and time stamped and it uses a "g-force" sensor that will lock the memory card data in the event of an accident. To protect yourself or to prove your innocence all you need is the visual proof - no sound, no speed, no GPS information - the picture/video will tell the entire story.
