On 6/11/2017, just west of Lincoln, NE, I had another trailer tire blowout while on the side of the I-80. Traffic was heavy, and I was happy to have the Good Sam policy. I called the Good Sam assistance number and after four hours of sitting on the side of the road (with two 2 year olds in the truck), I was ultimately told that the earliest they could get somebody to me was 8 am the following day. That was not an option, considering it was 9pm and we had been running the engine to keep the ac going for 4 hours at that point. I took it upon myself to call a truck stop that was several miles up the road, and they provided a telephone number for a guy who was able to get out and get me back on the road. I will be contacting Good Sam to request my money back. To say that I was disappointed with the service is an understatement. Don't waste your money.Re: Will the Yamaha 2000 combo generators power 15K ACSorry, to clarify: I mean the combo of 2 2000w Yamahas (4000w total). I know it works on paper, but I'm looking to see if anybody has practical experience using that gen setup with a 15K ac. Thanks for the help, and all replies are appreciated. Will the Yamaha 2000 combo generators power 15K ACI'm considering purchasing the Yamaha 2000w combo generator set to use during an extended trip we have planned this year. I have a Coleman 15K AC on the trailer, and am curious if anybody uses the Yamaha combo to power a 15K AC and what limitations I should expect. I've had a Yamaha 2400 for several years, and it worked occasionally to power our 13.5K when at lower elevations, but need to have enough power to use the AC if needed for short(er) durations when not in an actual park with hookups. Any help is appreciated. I'm not opposed to the Honda setup, but I like that the Yamaha has the fuel shutoff whereas the Honda does not. From what I've read, the power output for either setup (Honda vs Yamaha) is similar, but insight or suggestions regarding one brand over another is also appreciated.Re: Help me find a quality TT RVcrazy wrote: Northwood & Outdoors RV were both started by Ron Nash and are good quality, sturdy units. To my knowledge, they are the only manufacturers of TTs NOT using Lippert frames. Take a look at their websites. They are both manufactured close together with several dealers in close proximity. It might be worth a trip! Ditto... We love our Arctic Fox. If warranty service is a concern, contact Northwood and ask if they have designated repair shops in your area. Prior to our AF, we had a Forest River product that we travelled across the country to pick up (saved us a bundle). The few warranty items (that I wasn't willing to repair myself with the parts provided by FR) were taken care of by a dealer I didn't purchase from, and the repairs were done promptly and without issue. I assume Northwood has a similar arrangement.Re: Family of 5.... what travel trailer is best? Our Arctic Fox 31D floorplan would work for you. The separate rear area has a jackknife bed, fold-down above it and a bunk over the entertainment center opposite the said jackknife and fold-down. Eric I will definitely check that out!Re: Interesting gen experiment yam 2400isMy 2400 won't consistenttly run my 13.5K. I added a hard-start capacitor, but it won't blow cold for more than a few minutes. We are around 1000' (Phoenix metro area). Tried it during both cool (relatively speaking - this is Phoenix) and hot weather. Through 3 campers (PU, Hybrid and now TT), the gen would not consistently start/run any of the 13.5's.Re: 300w vs 500w inverter questionThanks for the info. I purhased a 500w inverter a year or so ago, but recently found my 300w that I had packed away in a closet and forgot about. I've already tested and found the tv to work with both, but didn't know if there was an advantage to use one over the other. Neither is pure sine.300w vs 500w inverter questionThe television in our TT is a 32" Jenson that runs on 110v only. I have both 300w and 500w inverters, and both have proven to power the tv on battery power alone. Other than the obvious (the 500w provides more juice), is there an advantage to using a higher or lower watt inverter, given both provide the required power? Thanks, and I hope everyone is having a great camping season!Re: Generator: Any good reason to choose Honda over YamahaI think it mostly comes down to whether you prefer red or blue. I bought a Yamaha 2400is a few years back because I read multiple posts indicating it would run a 13.5 A/C. My experience, however, is that it is not capable of reliably doing so. Although it works great and meets our needs otherwise, if I had to do it again, I'd buy a 2000 model (either red or blue) and purchase a second if A/C is a necessity. Because we live in Arizona, our rule is mostly that if it is hot enough to need A/C, we either go to a campground with hookups or to a higher elevation. The 2400 weighs around 70 lbs, so although it is not a HUGE issue to move around, 40 lbs is preferred. Unless you need the extra 400w the Yamaha provides, I'd go with the lighter gen.
