All gas engine vehicles use a vacuum boost to reduce the braking effort. While towing this vacuum is not available and braking requires more effort, but with more effort the brakes can be applied. On the popular pickup diesels a hydro boost system is used - the power steering pump supplies hydraulic pressure to the brake master cylinder to aid with brake application. With the engine off the effort to apply the brakes is much greater than vacuum assisted systems.Re: Do you run house AC while on the roadYup, forgot to convert 120 volts to 12 volts - I’ll just suck it up and run the generatorRe: Do you run house AC while on the roadSome of these rigs have big inverters, battery banks and solar... does anyone try to use an inverter to power the AC - and pull power from an alternator? And solar? I guess anything is possible, but practical? Each AC would be 1500 watts - 15 amps running. That doesn’t seem like a big load to add to an alternator. I’m not worried about fuel use, just hrs of generator use.Re: Do you run house AC while on the roadLooks like I have my answer - be prepared in hot weather to run the house A/C. And I will have a toad, or towed,Re: Plug or unplug that is the questionI disconnect- Chevrolet stays hot with ignition switch off (at least 2008 Silverado). Why take a chance of draining my vehicle battery? What if the converter quits, power outage, surge?Do you run house AC while on the roadI am contemplating the purchase of a motor home... class A or Super C. I currently pull a 31’ trailer and am looking to consolidate the living and driving into 1 vehicle, adding conveniences like auto leveling, larger holding tanks, boondocking with solar or generator. One question I haven’t heard answered so far is: When on the road does the engine powered AC provide sufficient cooling for the entire coach? (I’m looking at 30 - 35’ coaches) or do you run the generator and the coach AC’s? For simplicity I live in the southeast US and will be traveling in the summer (90’s with lots of humidity). A related question - while winter traveling is the engine heater sufficient to warm the coach, say down to 35? Please enlighten me. JoeRe: Boondocking ACOnly if you’re using a generator - A 2000 watt generator may run it if the AC has a soft start kit... otherwise a 3000 watt is needed. The battery storage and solar panels aren’t quite there yet. If you figure the AC running 25% (optimistic) 1000 watts X 6 hrs = 6000wh per day. Solar panels - 400 watts/panel 3’X 6’ 4 - 6 needed, LiFePO batteries 1200 wh per battery - 4 to 6 needed $5 - $7000. These are very optimistic estimates... It may be tough to find enough room for the panels, batteries - maybe if you have deep pockets. And I’ve made no provision for other loads. Gotta have a generator! Get a 7-9000 btu efficient mini split AC... maybe?Re: toilet bowl waterCheck out “RV toilet seal replacement” on YouTube... dozens of videos!Re: Jayco 2017 RSBS AC isaueYep, my bet would be mud dauber nest on an outside fan blade.Re: Rear Kitchen - good idea or bad idea?I have a Jayco Eagle 31 RKDS. Rear kitchen - love the layout. And never have had any issue with any drawers or cabinets popping open. No dishes broken. The fridge is on the back wall and couldn’t keep the gas burner lit - I think it was the buffeting and vacuum at the rear face of the trailer while driving. I swapped for a 12 volt compressor fridge and have not regretted the change.
