We have tossed around the idea of going back to a pop up for a few years and then going back to a smaller Class C or Class B. I'm inclined to more likely hold onto it for another year or two. I'm fairly handy with small repairs but engine's aren't my thing so that was what had me the most concerned with having it sit for so long. The gas tank is just above half and I had thought about putting some conditioner in it while I try to burn off the old gas. I am heading over to it again this weekend to put some air in the tires and run it again but probably won't drive it just yet. I don't want to do unnecessary items but want to make sure its safe to drive. Lot's of good advice so I appreciate the feedback.Re: Getting it Road Ready@DiskDoctr it's a 2008 Four Winds Chateau Sport. We bought it in 2009 and used it a lot the first two years. In 2012 I had put new shocks and tires on it anticipating more use, then I had a job change so that put a dent in things. The next summer my daughters activities really took off and prevented us from using. Before I fired it up I did look through the engine compartment to see if I could see any nests or debris but didn't find anything. I watched it closely the first day I started it back up and no warning lights or anything came on. The temp seemed normal after running for about 20 minutes and the same again when I ran it yesterday. On the tires, they were covered by the RV cover I had on it so they really didn't have any exposure to the sun and at most times, there were other units on either side of me to also help block the sun. If you looked at the tires right now, the sidewalls show no sign of fading or cracking. The old tires I took off were in worse shape. Still not sure I trust them due to sitting and age despite the looks. We wouldn't be really using it until April at the earliest so was trying to at least have it running so I could bring it home a few times on weekends to start cleaning it up and get all the interior stuff checked out.Re: Getting it Road ReadyThanks. I was going to have the brakes looked at as part of the tune up and oil change. The tires were new the last year we really used it so the tires are about 5 years old but I understand what you are talking about and even though they look new, I don't think I would trust them more than driving them to the shop that did the work the last time which is luckily only about 7 miles from where I have it parked. The gas is one of the reasons I was trying to run it to try and burn out the old and then get some fresh in there. I'll have to take a look at the roof but probably will need to be re-sealed. We are getting to the point now that we can start using it again so I'm trying to figure out what I can be doing between now and the spring when we would start camping again.Getting it Road ReadyWe bought our RV back in 2009 and used it for family trips for the first few years. As my two girls got older, their activities prevented us from really using the RV. I had it parked at our storage lot, with a cover on it but needles to say, I neglected it for a few years, like 5 to be exact. I would check on it from time to time but the battery had died so I couldn't start her up. Last week I needed to go over and remove the old cover as it had become tattered and fell down. I decided to pick up a new battery and see if she would start and to my surprise she fired right up but sounds rough. I went back today and started her up again and let her run, and while I did that I walked through the RV and around it and really looked things over. Other than being dirty, it looks much like it did when we parked it. I need to put some more air in the tires before I could even drive it around the block but any advice from people who may have had a similar situation our bought a used one that had sat. What do I need to get her back running and usable? Was going to take it and get an oil change and tune up and have them give it a good looking over but any other advice? ThanksClass C Delaminiation RepairI haven't used the camper in a while but just went over to check on it this past weekend. First problem, couldn't get it to start and its not the battery. Plenty of juice but nothing happens when I turn the key. I noticed some mouse droppings so I wonder if one chewed a wire. Anyway, while walking through, I noticed water damage in the overhead cab. I walked outside and looked and while everything looks good, when I push on the side it is soft. As I walked around I noticed another spot further down on the same side with a bubble and it is also soft. Where is the best place to go to try and get the repair work done? I have a Camping World near me but wondering how to find other places that might do repair work. I'm in Indianapolis, I did think about checking for shops up in Northern Indiana where all the manufacturers are to see what I might turn up but thought I'd check here for recommendations first.Re: Storing a class cI've owned a Class C for the past 4 years and have alway's had it stored outside at a storage facility due to HOA restrictions in my subdivision. I've paid about $60 per month and it is in a gated area with security. I haven't covered it but I wish I had and am going to be purchasing a cover soon. I am in Indiana so we do get snow and ice storms. I really haven't had too much of an issue other than the roof vents damaged in a hail storm. The place I use does regular security checks. I've seen them driving around when I've been out at my RV doing some cleaning or minor maintenance. The only real issue I have had is mice. Two years ago I had one get in the RV and then just this past weekend we had another one. I'm not sure if they actually got into the RV at the storage location or at my house when I had it parked for two days prior to our trip. My only tip is try to find a location that is not too far away so you can run over and check on it from time to time. We don't get to use ours as often as I'd like due to kids activities so I will stop over every once in a while to check on the RV. Start the engine and exercise the generator. If the storage is too far away then its easy to let too much time go buy. Also, depending on how strict your HOA is you can usually get away keeping it for a few days. I typically go and get my RV on Wednesday's before a trip so we can clean, stock and do a test of everything before heading out. Then upon return we usually will have it in the driveway for a day or two before taking it back. That way we can clean it good before going back to storage.Re: Extra PassengerPretty sure this one is a solo traveler. If not, I have plenty of bait for guest. Once I get home, the inside will get a thorough cleaning and inspection for damage. It took some toilet paper so it made a nest somewhere that I have to find. I think it took it under the sink near the water heater. At least that was where it kept wanting to go when I was trying to get it out the other night.Re: buying Bilstein shocksI bought mine from e shocks as well. Best investment I've made. Love the way the motorhome drives now. No problem with the shocks and I had a local mechanic put them on for me.Extra PassengerMy daughter and I came up to the campground a day before the wife and older daughter. Around 5am I heard a noise. Didn't think much of it as I thought something was outside the RV. Then I heard another bang which was inside. I got up and flipped on a light only to find a mouse on the couch. I tried for about 20 minutes to coax it out the door with no luck. Ended up just going back to bed. Texted the wife who brought some bait with her and the dog. Haven't seen the extra guest since the first night but we are keeping our eyes open. Surprisingly, both my girls and wife have been good sports about the mouse. Probably because the feel the dog will alert them if it shows up in the middle of the night again.Re: Never againI camped at Natural Spings two years ago and had a similar experience. The campground was crowded, loud and someone's dog jumped on our screen house and tore a hole in it and the dogs owner didn't seem to care at all. Will not go back to this campground and would not recommend this place even on a normal weekend.
