I'm hoping I can find a solar panel at Cabela's suitable for charging them, because I have a bunch of Cabela Bucks I can use for that.Re: RV WhisperI have a similar interest, which should perhaps gets its own thread, but I'll tag onto here for starters. Our MH is stored outdoors without power. I'd like to set up surveillance cameras with solar power. I have a couple of cameras that I can use, but the weak link is the wifi-to-cellular bridge. I have a Verizon Jetpack, which works fine until the power goes out. No surprise there, but what's annoying is that when the power is restored, the Jetpack doesn't start up again until I press a button. That means that if I get a couple of cloudy days in a row, the Jetpack is going to run down, and I'll have to drive out to where it's stored to start it up again. Anyone else trying to do something similar? Among the options I've thought of include a giant battery that will charge from the solar panel and never run down, a hotspot that will start up when power is applied, and some kind of robot that detects the loss of WiFi and presses the little button.Re: How tall is too tall? 2oldman wrote: Unicorn1108 wrote: Putting 12 feet six into the GPS, we've never had a problem getting where we wanted. Does it really work in your GPS? It's worked so far, but sometimes we need to override the GPS routing, because it can be too cautious. It avoids windy roads, sometimes adding 100 miles to a trip. Combining the GPS with GoodSam and Google Maps routing, we usually get something good. We trick the GPS into going the way we want by inserting a way point, which we remove when we get close to it.Re: Motorhome Search EngineThanks! I'll check it out.Re: How tall is too tall?No MH will fit under 10 feet, so it seems that between 10 feet and 13 feet it doesn't matter, especially if one has info for proper routing. There's a popular YouTube video of an 11 foot 8 inch bridge, apparently people don't read the sign.Motorhome Search EngineAnyone know of a good web site to search for and compare RVs across manufacturers? I'd love to filter on length, height, features, price, etc. I see some sites that offer some filtering, but nothing comprehensive. Thanks! BobRe: How tall is too tall?I think I looked at a couple of Newmar units, one was 12'10", another 13 feet. Glad to hear that 12'9" isn't a problem. I noticed some units with optional low-profile A/C units, which would help some. Even better to move them off the roof, as they are with refrigerated trucks. I don't know why they are where they are, even with factory-installed ducted units. How tall is too tall? We've got a class A with a height of 12 feet three inches. Putting 12 feet six into the GPS, we've never had a problem getting where we wanted. I've only had the rig for a year, but already I'm looking into upgrades. :-) A lot of the MHs I like are taller, some over 13 feet. I think that would have fit under the bridges we've encountered, but I don't remember that well. Trees are another issue. We've dragged lighter branches along the roof a few times, so I expect if we were taller, we might have encountered a thicker branch. Does anyone here wish their RV was a few inches shorter? How has your height caused serious problems for you? Do you think your next RV will be less tall?Re: House batteries to use with large inverterI've only got room for 2 batteries, unless I start welding, and I foolishly left that equipment behind, so I think I'll go with a pair of 12V AGM batteries. I've been parked and plugged in for more than a week, so I'm going to measure the maintenance voltage that my converter is applying to my current batteries, and find a pair of AGMs to match, so I don't have to upgrade the converter too (I don't even know where it is). Thanks for all the ideas!Re: House batteries to use with large inverterWow, that's interesting about the variable power microwaves. I only know the kind that cycles between 100% and 0%. I'll definitely look into that, since I'm not that attached to the current one, except that I know it fits. :-)
