Maybe that would help. RockyRe: OregonSept and Oct in the Cascade mountains should not be bad. September is truly beautiful in the Cascades. If you want to come east from Ontario on Hwy 20 to Bend you could always head south out of Bend on Hwy 97 and then exit 97 onto Hwy 58 toward Eugene. 58 is a major east/west truck route and is an easy drive but there are some downgrades (6%?) to be aware of. From Eugene area , south on I5 to Grants Pass.Re: Upgrading to 18" truck tiresI did it, 265/70-17 to 275/70-18 and I could not be happier. I found a set of 18" alloy Big Horn wheels from a 2014 on Craigs list for a good price. I went ahead and had the wheel size reprogrammed as the speedometer difference irritated me and I hear the shift points would be affected. I picked up almost 1000 lbs of capacity over the stock wheels and the extra safety margin makes me feel better when I run heavy.Re: Upgrading to 18" truck tiresI did it, 265/70-17 to 275/70-18 and I could not be happier. It clearly shows the pinbox plate on the trailer about 1 inch lower than the top of the hitch plate in the truck. Then when you back up, the plates slide over each other and the truck lifts the trailer slightly. If you try to hitch with the truck too high you stand the risk of the jaws of the hitch not grabbing the pin correctly.Re: No hot water in bathroomI'm with Scott on this one. You probably would have remembered opening a hotwater bypass valve on the HW tank. The outside shower faucets are an easy one to forget to turn off. The cold water then back feeds to the hot water side.Re: Need advise on tow vehicle 3500 or 3500 duallyI think even if you bump the wheel size and capacity of the tires you are still limited by the GAWR. My SRW drive 1-ton Dodge has a GAWR of 6200 lbs. With my 32.5 ft trailer (34' actual) loaded for weekend camping, my scaled weight on the rear axle is 6000-6200 lbs depending on how I have packed. If you plan on full timing then I say absolutely the DWR. If you are weekending then the SRW will suffice but the DWR gives you a lot more safety margin. I wish I had gone the dually route but talked myself out of it as it is my daily driver.Re: Hwy 395 Oregon border to border .Oh, in case you are interested in that RV park near Malheur. http://www.narrowsrvpark.com/Re: Hwy 395 Oregon border to border .I'm not sure of your timing and all but there is not a lot between Lakeview and Burns but open high desert. Thats about 200 miles. Once you get to Burns, if you have time double back south on Hwy 205 towards the Malheur refuge. 25 miles south of Burns is The Narrows. It is a place where the hwy crosses the isthmus of Malheur Lake. There is an RV park there that while I have not stayed there it looks nice. Open high desert near the wildlife refuge should give you lots of coyotes to talk with. Spend a day driving around the refuge looking at birds. Very neat area to explore. Then you can double back to Burns and continue north on 395.Re: Hwy 395 Oregon border to border .395 north from CA would be a great trip. From CA border it is mostly high desert and sparse traffic till junction with hwy 20 then east to Burns for a short distance. North of Burns to John day is really nice. Nothing too severe in any of this route and traffic will be light. North out of John Day to the Columbia is more forested but again not bad driving. I would choose this over hwy 97. Hwy 97 is a heavy truck route and lots of traffic. How big are you towing?
