All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsWays To Keep Your Ford 6.0 liter diesel running cooler I show and discuss 6 methods how to keep your Ford 6.0 liter diesel running at normal temperatures and how not to have a boilover. I also discuss causes of this engines heating issues. If you tow or carry heavy loads or RV's, this is a video for you. Severe duty fan clutch left. Thicker, larger center area. Re: Ways To Keep Your Ford 6.0 liter diesel running cooler Hey Admin, mind making the video link work. I had it working earlier and now it doesn't work. I can't get back in to edit. Please fix, Thank you, Re: More F-550 and TC Projects, Triumphs And Delays Oh believe me, it's an inconvenience! We haven't been campi g in 7 weeks... Summer's closing soon. I'm going to be waiting about a month yet for the new radiator. In the mean time, I will satiate myself installing the viper 5706 alarm with remote start, flood lighting on each camper jack with 3 way seitching from cab or camper, larger stabilizing bars on the front jacks. Ill do the waterpump, fan clutch, and radiator when it gets here. All in the name of fun. I am certain the larger capacity, 3 core radiator will be the game changer. We'll see. Re: More F-550 and TC Projects, Triumphs And Delays 6 liter overheating is a very well known issue. Why do you think there are so many products addressing the problem? Bulletproof alone makes their water pump, external oil cooling system. Improved EGR cooler. Coolant filter systems protecting against overheating. There are larger radiators by several companies. I am not the first or only person dealing with excessive or overheating problems with a 6 liter diesel. Re: More F-550 and TC Projects, Triumphs And Delays I do like the simplicity of this truck. On the radiator, I've read that the radiator can suffer the same clogging affliction as the oil cooler. It all starts with the EGR cooler super heating the antifreeze and changing its molecular structure into sticky little particles that like to attach to surfaces. It's what clogs up the oil cooler and causes the cooler to collect other particulates leading to higher oil temperatures. I've read that the radiator is a place these particles like to attach in the cooling process. over time, they create enough restriction to cause over heating. reduced radiator flow could also explain how at higher rpm, coolant pressure builds due to blockage and out the degas bottle cap it goes. This truck had a pin hitch in the bed and rumor has it it used to pull horses and equipment in the Oregon Mountains. The 185 degree thermostat has made a difference and so has rerouting the coolant return from the coolant filter into the radiator for cooling, rather back into the heater core return hose and into the water pump without cooling. The folks at AFE told me the new radiator may not ship till November. The Scummit people tell me it's in a production run and should be here September 7th. I'm expecting an email, text, or call from Scummit with a definitive answer and then I will decide if I need to go with a Mishimoto instead. Whatever happens, I need to do something to resolve this heat issue once and for all. More F-550 and TC Projects, Triumphs And Delays VIDEO: https://youtu.be/AEQQ43449QoVIDEO: As many of you may know, I've been busily working on, and preparing the F550 for quite a while now planning on extended travel. I'm currently installing a VIPER 5706 alarm with remote start. I've finished the rear seat platform storage and cat area. We're getting closer to finishing all the truck and camper upgrades. Waiting for the new large 3 core radiator to arrive. SUMMIT just emailed me a notice asking if I wanted to continue waiting for the new radiator. I'll call them today to find out what the problem causing the delay to the delay to the delay is and see if I need to go with another brand like Mishimoto so I can at least get a big new radiator. Then I'll install the Radiator, Bulletproof Aluminum water pump, and the severe duty fan Clutch in one sitting. These items all occupy the same space so one tear down reassembly would be nice. After that, the truck will be in top condition and ready to go up against any challenge such as Furnace Creek, Death Valley in August 120 degrees. PICTURES: Re: Installed a sliding rear window in the F550 Learn on the fly! Easier than I expected... Installed a sliding rear window in the F550 VIDEO: Installing A Sliding Glass Rear Window. I got the Carlite OEM window at a wrecking yard for $260.00. The major chain installer wanted $850.00. By going used and installing the rear sliding window myself, I saved $600.00, and got a Carlite Slider in perfect condition. It took half an hour to remove the existing basic window, and about an hour to prep and install the sliding window. I tell you, this project feels good to have completed and saved the money. The cats will be so happy to have their pass-through back. They loved it in the F250 and so did we. Increased storage and a place for the carriers, litter box, and food. I need to fabricate a new foam tunnel boot for the 7"x14"x18" opening with 3" foam cushion 30x72. The new larger AFE 3 core Radiator gets here after 08/15/25. I have a couple more truck projects left and hope to start taking more roadtrips soon. Installed a Shelf/Storage system in the F-550 I bought 10 2x3s, a sheet of 5/8 ACX, some brackets, screws and fabricated a shelving/storage system in the F-550 back seat area. We have Zero use for the back seat, but we do have a big need for additional storage capacity. The lowest level on the floor, is a large open area for tools and supplies, above that the area is tailored to cat comfort for Archie and Poppie. The lower area can be accessed through a center lift out panel. I am going to install some lighting so we can see down there, especially at night. I installed 1-1/2" Pink Foam Board Insulation on the back wall. That is a large area when exposed to hot or cold would be a big surface for heat transfer, The insulation fits nice and flush to the back wall. I used a couple layers of Gorilla duct tape to attach and seal at the top where it meets the sheet metal. This setup is improved over the first setup I did in the F-250. Amazing what can be learned from experience. Now the problem is Safelite was supposed to install a new rear sliding window and they didn't order the gasket for the window, thinking they could reuse the existing gasket. I had to send pictures to the manager of the F-250 slider which they installed years ago what the gasket looks like and how it won't fit the aluminum window frame. So now they want me to go their shop in a week to have it installed there. I also specified to get a Carlite brand window instead of the thing they brought. The cats were so looking forward to getting the new window but now they're bummed having to wait another week which in cat time is a month. I'll add to the post when things are totally finished. You can see the anticipation. Re: A little something I tried for better engine cooling For comparison, this is the TEE return Mishimoto recommends for their coolant filter return. Sinister diesel and a few others recommend the same return method. IPR might be the only coolant filter kit manufacturer who returns to the coolant pump without any additional cooling, while the rest of the manufacturers kits return through the radiator and degas bottle.
