All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: A little something I tried for better engine cooling For comparison, this is the TEE return Mishimoto recommends for their coolant filter return. Sinister diesel and a few others recommend the same return method. IPR might be the only coolant filter kit manufacturer who returns to the coolant pump without any additional cooling, while the rest of the manufacturers kits return through the radiator and degas bottle. A little something I tried for better engine cooling VIDEO https://youtu.be/0H-L_CLgnyc?si=n53qe7zXQJ4AjKvu I rerouted my IPR coolant filter hose from returning to the coolant pump, to return like Sinister Diesel, Mishimoto, and others do. The new routing goes to a TEE which splits the filter coolant return between the radiator and the degas bottle. The new return method returns coolant through the radiator which will cool the coolant. The old method returned the coolant directly back to the pump with no cooling. You can instantly realize the advantage here. After a 50 mile test drive, I can say there is an improvement and the peak temperature was 6 degrees cooler than before dropping from 216 to 210. The outside air temp was mid 70s, about 10 degrees warmer than the previous high temperature reading. Running cooler in warmer weather, That's A Good Thing! Mishimoto setup Re: 2006 F550 Electric Viscous Fan Clutch No More Overheating Rolling IIIIIIIIIs. To update this conversation, the new fan clutch did make a difference and the engine generally runs cooler but on miles long hills, it still begins to overheat. I will be installing a Mishimoto 185 degree thermostat to get the radiator started on cooling 7 degrees earlier. Opinions say it may or may not help. Next, my wallet is taking one for the team on this, I'm swapping out the new fan clutch for the severe duty snowplow fan clutch which engages harder all the time driving more air through the condensor, trans cooler, power steering cooler, intercooler, and finally the radiator. The other biggie is a new AFE 3 core radiator with about 20% more coolant capacity. The cores are 2.25" wide, whereas the Mishimoto is 2 1" core, 1.88" wide. Lastly, I'm going to reroute my IPR water filter return line from under the degass bottle, to how several other filter vendors do their return line. They route the return to a TEE splitting into the hose going between the top of the radiator, and the degas bottle barb fittings. The current setup returns coolant to the engine side of the coolant system. The change will circulate coolant into the radiator side of the coolant system. This way will increase coolant flow through the radiator bypassing the thermostat. That will increase my cooling by a yet to be determined amount. While disposing of excess heat from this engine has been an issue of concern, I think the new parts will easily resolve any remaining issues. The end goal is to be able to drive up a miles long hill with the TC and who knows if I'll get a cargo trailer at some point for longer duration trips. We shall see how this plays out when all the new parts and modifications are completed. I'll tell you though, this truck drives like a dream, though there has been debate over the 6 liter and reliability, keep in mind, there has been a Lot of research done by many very capable mechanical enthusiasts and they have figured the problems out creating a lot of products that do wonders to make this a highly desirable engine. It's going to cost far less to turn this into a great and reliable truck than to buy new or newer. Plus, no DEF or regen to mess with. It's the last of the straight forward diesels. Re: First Trip With F-550 6 Liter A Success The site is acting goofy today. I couldn't post or reply to anything for a couple days. It's working for me now obviously. Got trip report posted in another post. Ordered a larger radiator by AFE through Summit. 3 core, 2 1/4 thick or wide depending how you like your dimensions labeled. Also got the severe duty snowplow fan clutch. What I've read is it has a more solid viscous engagement to the fan and turns it harder moving more air than the standard fan. Unlike the popular 7.3 fan conversion, this fan plugs into the wireharness and works with the engine computer causing no codes. Those items won't be here for a couple weeks, so until then, I travel with my INNOVA 5610 scanner connected and keep a close eye on temperatures. That's where the truck update is now. Sure, I've put a couple thousand and a bunch of hours into fixing the truck up. Still far and away cheaper than a newer truck plus no DEF or regen crap to deal with. With only 80000 miles on the truck, I'm pretty sure I'll have it a long glorious time. Camped At Bruceport Campground and Found a Nice Restaurant https://youtu.be/vMlO4vK1Uzk Nice campground, great view, nice fire, tasty dinner, dump and fill tanks and finally, found a new restaurant we really liked. Enjoy. J&K First Trip With F-550 6 Liter A Success The site is acting goofy today.undefinedMy F-550 6 Liter Is All Fixed Now. VIDEO >>> https://youtu.be/HazocTHX4kI <<< VIDEO Got the F-550 engine issues all resolved and it runs like a dream! Repaired the fuel pressure regulator with a blue spring kit service update. Installed a new fram rail fuel pump and fuel filters. Replaced a warn out electric controled hydrolic fan clutch. Installed a Motorcraft remanufactured fuel injector. Changed the oil and filter plus added Archoil oil treatment. I am also usung Archoil fuel treatment. For good measure, I also installed a new Motorcraft 192F degree thermostat. Having a great, trouble free first roadtrip. Getting about 10.8 mpg, fully loaded. More updates as they happen. Maybe we'll get some travel videos posted now. 2006 F550 Electric Viscous Fan Clutch No More Overheating VIDEO >>> https://youtu.be/gWskEvjlGfk <<< VIDEO I have fixed all known problems on my F550 now. The Fuel pump on the frame rail and both fuel filters. Installed the Motorcraft Blue Spring kit in the fuel pressure regulator. Replaced the #8 Fuel Injector with a Motorcraft Remanufactured Injector. I also Replaced the electric viscous radiator fan clutch. No more over heating. The truck sounds great and runs like a champ. An amazing amount of power. The big F550 brake rotors have a lot of stopping power, far more than the F250. Now I can finally start having some fun instead of Fixing Or Repairing Daily. See what I did there? Re: Truck Camper Dually Jack Stabilizer Brace The brace is attached when jacks are swung out and TC is on the ground which is good, it keeps.it stable. When loaded, I disconnect the brace from the attachment next th the TC tiedown and swing it up flat against the jack and put a couple wraps of electric tape to hold it in position till needed again Re: FORD 6.0 Liter Repairing The Fuel Supply System Hmmm, we have dualing opinions on Archoil or Snake oil, depending which side of the isle you stand. Whether or not Secret Sauces work can be debated. I'm not one of the faithful, but I did give it a try. No love for me and I will be taking the engine apart shortly. Need to build an elevated walk around the front of the truck for easier access to the engine. Let the fun begin!
