Anyone know of any issues or conditions along that route that would affect driving a 40' coach with toad? Any recommendations for getting around Buffalo? I want to get to I 190 and then Youngstown NY? I'll appreciate any responseRe: rv park near north hills of PittsburghThanks for your opinions !!Re: Colorado to Taos, NMMiles, I don't fish fresh water but Lake Okeechobee is legendary for bass fishing. Check out Roland Martin marina in Clewiston on the south rim. There likely are also guides etc on the north rim in the town of Okeechobee I've heard tales of strikes on every cast and 100 bass hooked up in a few hours. Go hunt some wild hogs while you're there. Beyond lake O, there are plenty of streams, smaller lakes etc in the northern section of Fl. Check out Lake Seminole.Re: Dish Network and local channelsA pay as you go Dish system is simple and cheap IF you have a home Dish Account. If that's the case, go buy a rig like a Tailgater portable automatic antenna and portable Dish Network receiver that's compatible with the Tailgater When you want to travel, call Dish to activate your portable. Your monthly bill will increase by about $7 for those months that the added receiver is active. When you're off the road, call. To deactivate and your bill goes back to normal. I get my entire home line up while on the road with this system, including the HD. I have not tried PPV. Local channels no problem. Just need to keep updating your temporary locations and wait a few minutes. If you don't have Dish at home, pay as you go is available but not cheap or simple. If you go with any Dish system, and you have a smart phone or tablet, I recommend you spend a couple $ for an app like " Dish for my RV". It uses your device camera lens and screen to "see" the 3 dish sats in the sky. It really helps when you're trying to place your antenna among trees etc. the Tailgater will self find the sats, but it needs to have a clear view between its location and the sats. It's generally to the SSW to SW but that's not good enough in many places. Once the Tailgater is plugged into its own 50' co ax cable that is also connected to the receiver that has a HDMI cable connection to the tv and is plugged into 115vac, with a clear view of the sats, you will have tv in about 15 minutes. If you call Dish while you're waiting, you'll have the locals a few minutes after the other channels come on. I find that the Tailgater is a bit fussy about the connecting cable and connections. Adding things like easy- slip-on connectors, different coax, additional lengths of coax or older types of coax will usually lead to issues. The Tailgater needs only what little power is available thru coax cable and connections not intended for much current carrying. The receiver is also sensitive to power surges, lightening strikes etc. After replacing a few receivers, I find it best to unplug the receiver from 115v before making connections, during raging storms and before connecting, disconnecting or switching from shore power to/from gen set power Check prices on line. Camping World carries these and other options but so do others incl some Dish dealers.Re: I70 west out of DenverRuss 1102' you didn't say where your trying to get to or much about your Ford. I drove from Loveland to Vail via I-70 about a month ago. I see that you're a flat lander from WI. IF you're not accustomed to mountain driving in your rig be advised that I 70 may not be a pleasure cruise. It's far from a typical interstate. A month ago they were blasting near Floyd's Hill which caused huge back ups and long delays. Since it's construction, expect some walled-in narrow lanes on curves. There are several stretches of rough and uneven pavement. Beyond that, the climb to and descent from the Eisenhower tunnel are quite long and as steep as interstates get. There are some stretches where the slope is less but there are several miles of 6-7% grades, some with 35mph max speed downhill curves. I recommend downshifting to about your lowest gear before starting downgrade. Rest stations are scarce but if you need a short break there are several "chain up"" pull offs where you can stretch. Weather can complicate. I drove eastbound in some heavy rains. Had there been a place to pull off to wait it out, I would of but was not an option. We went west on a Sunday - the eastbound traffic was backed up for miles and barely crawling along. We went east on a Friday - same mess going west. Don't even think about west on a Friday or east on Sunday If you're only going to say, Central City, you can easily avoid I 70 by going into Golden on 6 then follow 6 through Clear creek canyon north to Blackhawk then into Central City. Decent 2 lane, light traffic, slight but steady climb into Blackhawk but quite easy. Pretty drive too since you wind thru a beautiful canyon and are usually alongside a whitewater creek. Plan your trip, make sure you and your rig are fit, know your capabilities before you go and be careful. Have fun. Remember it's a Recreational vehicleRe: Colorado to Taos, NMThank you Miles and Lynn! Any questions about Florida?Colorado to Taos, NMAny knowledge of routes from Colorado to Taos? I'm considering taking US 160 from I 25 at Walsenburg west to Ft Garland, CO then CO 159 south till it becomes NM 522 then follow for another 44 miles onto Taos. I see that we will cross the 9400' La Vita pass on 160 but is there anything else to consider? Any alternative route suggestions? I'll be driving a 40' coach with toad.US 65 in ArkansasDoes anyone have knowledge about US 65 in southern Arkansas? I am looking specifically for insight about 65 from Pine Bluff, south to Fairview, near Lake Chicot SP. I will be driving a 40' coach with a toad. This stretch shows as "scenic" on my atlas. I find that too often that can mean hilly, curvy, narrow and sometimes rough so I am seeking recent experiencesRe: Carlsbad RV parksStayed at the Carlsbad RV park - KOA was just too remote. CRVP needed some updating of the power poles and that work was well underway last August. Large, level sites, just a short way from town and much closer to the cavern After doing the cave, check out the public "beach" in Carlsbad! Neat little City park along the river. Surprisingly nice for a walk or picnic or whatever one does in a park. Try to go to the Cavern entrance at least an hour before sunset to watch the bats leave the cave. Amazing experience! Quiet except for the sound of the bats, no cameras clicking, very little talking. Hundreds of thousands of bats each night. There were no kids around in late August so can't comment. The Ranger led tour into the special, normally closed areas of the cavern was well worth it. The Great Room is amazing but the closed areas have some very delicate formations and the Ranger talk is very educational. -- including a short 'lights out' periodRe: What did you do to your Class A MH today???Changed out the plastic coolant recovery tanks on both the Cummins ISL 400 and the Onan Genset My coach is a 2004 Safari (by Monico) - - both tanks showed some cracking near the corners and the tank on the genset was 'wet' on the bottom. These tanks are very important inspection items, for any unit more than about 7 years old and one that most folks and even technicians don't think about. Having your coolant blow out while you're on the road will shut you down - usually at a very inconvenient time Also had the oil and all filters replaced, then I replaced all 6 batteries (house were 5 yrs, chassis were over 8 years but still starting the unit) Cleaned out the compartment too. Changed both windshield wipers - took awhile to find parts as they are screw on vs. clip on type - - finally at NAPA - the were almost $30 each even after a AAA discount but the previous ones lasted over 8 years.
