I know what assume means. :) You would like to think that wouldn’t you? I think most are on separate hots but you would not be the first to report them both on the same hot. Interesting discussion. I still don't see why there is any need to balance. A 50A leg can easily handle 2 AC's even if something like a water heater is running. All three of those running at the same time would still be less than 5000 running watts - well below the 6000 avail. The RV's panel doesn't care - you could max out one leg and have nothing on the other leg without any heat, etc. How about those large class A's out there with 3 and even 4 AC's purring along in Las Vegas? Do they never run three or 4 at once? It sure sounds like they do when you walk past them.. If I'm missing something, I'd enjoy learning. EDIT: found this old thread that suggests running three at once (so 2 on one leg) is no problem: Linkaroonie Although I tend to agree on some Ways my particular case is different, and it may be for some others as well. My truck is a Powerboost, it’s a Hebrides F150 that uses the electric motor to charge up a 1.5KWhr battery, then an inverter. Inverts the signal into 2 3600watt legs. So my generator is 7.2KW on the truck but output is limited to 2X 3600watts. If the two AC are on the same leg I most certainly won’t be able to run both at the same time. A simple rewire to have them on different legs would definitely make sense in my situation. That being said I can not possibly think of very many situations that I would need 2 AC while boondocking. If I have a power failure and move into the RV for a bit, maybe, but that’s doubtful as well because I wouuohook the truck directly to power my house. My goal is to find out all the possible solutions, research them all and then make the decision that will work best for me. I do appreciate everyone’s insight. I’ve learned a lot with all your help already.Re: Adding Second A/C to 50 Amp TTAwesome, great info! I understand the start up spike on AC units. But did not realize that wasn't measured. Just assumed the rating was the max. Interesting that it wouldn't trip a breaker spiking that high, even for a moment. Again, not an electrician. Just trying to figure this out. I will check the power on the RV, just and assumption but wouldn't the manufacturer spread the current out evenly on a camper that is prewired for 50amp service... I know what assume means. :)Re: Adding Second A/C to 50 Amp TTThanks everyone for the great answers. I'll definitely look into the mod on my current AC and check the ductwork. Maybe if I can make that system more efficient I wont have to worry about adding an AC.Re: Adding Second A/C to 50 Amp TTThanks for the responses. This AC would not be ducted. The wiring is indeed there, I checked today. I only need a unit to keep the bedroom and bathroom cooled (or heated) in extreme temps. I think a smaller unit may be lighter as well. Hard to find ones with a heat pump though. totally sure where that leg goes to in the Power Distribution. There would not normally be an issue unless I am using my truck to power it. The truck has a 7.2KW inverter built into it. Technically it works as two 3600 Watt generators. The more balanced the load the better chance I would have with the truck keeping up. I highly doubt there would be a need for that but another Hot weekend in Talladega and I may want it... but need, not really. Outside is where we want to be.Adding Second A/C to 50 Amp TTHi All!! My family are getting back into the RV scene after getting away for a few years. We purchased a 2022 Cruiser Aire 28RKS. This is a 32'-9" trailer with one slide that runs the length of the Kitchen and living area. The camper came with a single Dometic A/C in the living room that is ducted. We have only been out a few times but one of our trips it was pretty warm with no shade trees. The A/C didn't keep up very well and it was especially warm in the Bedroom. The RV came prewired for 50Amp so adding a second AC shouldn't be too complicated... except finding one. The specs on the ceiling where the wiring is state: 110-125Volt, 60Hz, and here is my problem 16Amps Maximum. I am struggling to find an AC that will meet the 16Amp minimum (especially on start-up). I am looking to add heat to that AC as well. I would appreciate any advice or point me in the right direction. 2022 F150 Powerboost Platinum (purchased Nov 2022, ordered May 2022) 2022 Cruiser Aire 28RKS Purchased Aug 2022Re: Grand Design Imagine 2250RKI definitely think I’d have a fairly comfortable tie with this set up, at least the numbers tell me I should. I’ll run a WDH and sway control also. Problem went to look at (again), test systems and buy the one we wanted. They knew that we were coming and why we were coming but sold it before we could get there. So now we are back on the hunt!Re: Grand Design Imagine 2250RKThanks for the responses. @Fisherman, very good points and you reminded me of a couple I will look at. This will be our third camper so we understand the "normal" camper stuff but I was hoping someone with a 2250RK would chime in with any specific issues. I will definitely make sure everything is tightened down good. That 200 miles shakedown ride from the dealership isn't the test where I want to find any issues. We are looking at used, probably a 2021 but we aren't locked into a specific year yet although it looks like they may have upgraded some things for 2020-2021MY. All manufacturers have some cult like followers, just like Ford, Chevy, and Dodge. I have been impressed by the Grand Design but its price is higher than others. This floorplan just seems to fit us well. Good Dealer- Good Warranty are a great combonation!Grand Design Imagine 2250RKHi all!, its been a while but we are about to purchase our next RV. Kids are grown so we are just looking for a couples trailer and we love the design of the 2250RK. Looking for insight as to any issues to look at when we go check it out. There seems to be quite a few available but if I understand correctly the 2250 RK is no longer manufactured. We will be pulling it with our 22 F150 Powerboost (once it comes in) but have a 2022 F150 Ecoboost so weight is not an issue with this camper.Re: Jumped into a Class A Yesterday!Thank you! We do live in Atlanta Ga, so it's fairly flat around us, but certainly, there will be some short climbs here and there. I am not that concerned with mileage although I do want to maximize it, especially on the longer trips. Getting 7.5mpg is higher than I was assuming when we were shopping so Id even be happy with that. If it gets more, then awesome! Ultimately I did not buy it for mileage and driving a big house down the road cant compete with Prius mileage. We will be towing my wife's car most of the time when we tow. It will be on a trailer so I'm expecting to be towing about 3500lbs. (car is about 2200lbs) If I end up with an enclosed trailer weight will be slightly higher, but with everything I read it doesn't seem that it affects it too much. I can't wait to get it home and compare the research I have done with the coach and get it ready for its first trip. There is a LOT to do before we camp the first time, but it should be fun! Thanks again for the advice!Re: Jumped into a Class A Yesterday!fcooper... thanks, I'll definitely take a look at all the maintenance required as soon as I get it home. DRTDEVL, I know the fuel tank is up front and I have a lot of learning on where everything is, but that's a good point. I'll check it out. 9.6 is amazing. I tend to be frugal on the throttle so I'm hoping for the best for mileage but Im sure there will be a learning curve. I have read to keep the RPM about 200 above the max torque of the engine. Not sure if that's true or not but it will all be part of my learning curve. I definitely appreciate the advice by everyone!
