All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsAccess to overhead bunkI have a class c with no slide outs. I have a ladder to climb into the over head bunk which works fine except I can’t use it when the couch is folded out to make a bed. How do you then get in and out of the bunk?Re: looking for a old productI use Polyglow on the front and back caps which are fiberglasss. It works great. They have a stripper if you need to get it off. You can google it.Re: Gas Fuel pumps (Ford)We were in Alaska and rig was getting harder and harder to start. When it finally started it was lurching and cutting out. I found a tech and he installed a new fuel filter. He had me give him a bowl and he poured the contents of the filter into the bowl and you could see little black flecks. I thought it was dirt in the fuel. When we got to Montana she quit. Had a new fuel pump installed. When I got home my mechanic told me the tech should have known when he saw the black flecks in the gas that the pump was disintegrating and should have replaced it then.Re: My converter noisesThe converter in my 1993 hummed like crazy when I got it, which drove me crazy. I took it out and put in a multi-stage Progressive Dynamics. Works like a champ and doesn't make a sound. It also weighs less than 1/2 what the old one did. I keep the old one in the shop for a 12 volt power source when I need to check things.Re: Holiday RamblerPurchased a 1993 25 foot HR Alumalite in 2015 with 58,000 miles on it. It is well-built, all aluminum. Solid wood cabinets. It is an E350 with the Ford 460. I had all the belts, hoses, fluids, and tires replaced, as well as new caliphers, and then took it on a 13,000 trip to Alaska and back with no issues other than the fuel pump went out in Montana on the way home. Love it. I intended on selling it when we got back because we already had a fifth wheel but we like it too much. It is easy to get around anywhere. Fuel mileage is really affected by speed. At 70 mph - 7 mpg. At 60 mph - 9 mpg.Re: Ford E350 - 460 "hiccup"I have a 1992 chassis with a similar issue. I can be driving along for 500 miles and all of a sudden it acts like it dropped into neutral. The engine revs as if not in gear, no increase in speed. It may do it three or four quick times in a row than not do it again for another 500 or 1000 miles. Recently I noticed that it seems to do it when the cruise control is on for a long time and it has done it several times shortly after the cruise control has been switched off. Newer cruise control module just installed and same problem. 79,000 miles on a 460 with recent tuneup. Mechanic has no answer.Re: Generator hoursAn Onan representative told me he would rather see 3000 hours than 300 hours on an older generator. They are made to run for hours on end.Re: Mail Forwarding? We spent this past January in Florida. We did the mail forwarding at the USPS. All the mail started arriving a week late, I can understand that. What I can't understand is that they would not forward my W-2s, 1099s, and medical bills, none of which, to my knowledge was marked "Do not Forward" and all of which were the most important items to be forwarded. Very frustrating.Re: Better gas mileageJust got back from a 13,000 mile trip to Alaska and back in a "C" with a Ford and a 460 engine. Not going over 65 mph I averaged 9.2 mph but much of that driving was much slower. I lose one mile per gallon running 70 mph rather than 60-65 mph. We had a diesel pusher and averaged 9 mpg. Talking to a guy one time he shook his head and said he didn't see how I could afford to drive it across country. I told him my yearly insurance and maintenance were much more than my annual fuel bill because I didnt drive the RV the thousands of miles a year I do my cars. Pencil out the difference per year between getting 7 mpg and 9 mpg. It is negligible compared to what you have spent for the rig. Buy the size you want and enjoy.Door jamb switchI recently acquired a 1993 class c Holiday Rambler. It has a door jamb switch much like a switch in a refrigerator to turn the light on. The switch fell apart and I cannot determine what it does. It does NOT control the steps, there is a magnetic switch for that, I cannot find any lights it controls, or anything that does not work because the switch croaked. Any ideas?
