We spend about 75 days in Alaska and have only had hookups at Sourdough in Tok for 3 days in 2 trips. We do run our generator in the mornings to keep our batteries up when the need arises.Re: Roll Call Alaska 2016lizzie, Add the Prairie Wanderer to the 2016 Roll Call Alaska list. 3rd trip in three years and as excited as the first trip. Departing Minnesota late June and planning on leaving Alaska late September. We spend a lot of our time in the Anchorage area at our son and daughter-in-laws, bonding with our grandson and celebrating his 2nd birthday. Hope to see some of you on the road! Travel safe, Mark and Zee AnneRe: Roll Call Alaska 2015We crossed into Canada at Sweet Grass on Monday, July 6th. We endured an 1 1/2 hour complete search of our motorhome and tow vehicle. We were told it was a "random" search, but they had 4 officers going through every compartment on the motorhome, even pounding on walls in a couple of cabinets. They confiscated nothing, even though we had plenty of meats, fruits, vegetables and eggs they probably could have taken. They went through everything thoroughly, not always returning things in a neat manner, while we spent the time in a waiting room with our dog. We've crossed the border to Canada many times before, but never at this crossing. We've never been searched before. I don't think we will choose this crossing again.Re: Jayco Seneca 36FK owner feedbackHi We purchased a new Seneca last June and put about 10000 miles on it. Ours is the 37TS but had considered and looked at the 36FK also. We liked all the room and storage it offered and are extremely satisfied with it. Towing a Jeep behind we averaged about 8.5 to 9.5 mpg with good power. MarkRe: Roll Call Alaska 2015Please add us to this years list. We will be leaving from southwestern Minnesota about the last week in June and be going up through Montana. Last year was our first RV trip to Alaska to be present for the birth of our first grandchild. Now we have an excuse to go every year to celebrate his birthday. Plan on returning in late September via Oregon to visit another son. See you on the road. Mark & ZeeRe: 2014 Seneca wheel size?Mike, Mileage was right around 8-9.5 towing on our Alaska trip. I can't think of anything to look out for. The tankless waterheater took a little playing around with temp control to get it just right. No major problems.Re: 2014 Seneca wheel size?GL, I purchased a 2015 Seneca 37TS in late June and left for Alaska the first week of July towing a Jeep Wrangler. Initally driving in the mountains I thought it was a little underpowered but the engine seemed to get stronger as we got more miles on it. Very happy with it now. We ended up putting about 10000 miles on it. Love the rig so far! MarkRe: Roll Call Alaska 2014Hi all ! Started our dream trip from southern Minnesota last Tuesday and tonight arrived in Watson Lake. Staying at Downtown RV till tomorrow. Saw beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife on our jaunt from Fort Nelson. Even stopped for delicious cinnamon rolls at Tetsa River. Tomorrow we hope to get up in the Whitehorse area. Heading to Anchorage to be there for the birth of our first grandchild.Re: purchase decisionMy biggest concerns about the cambria are the smaller size of the tanks, not much counter space and if the V10 engine will do will towing through the western states. It's price compared to the Seneca is a plus. They both looked to be nice well built coaches. Thanks for your input so far.purchase decisionWe have narrowed our RV purchase choice down to two....an Itasca Cambria 30J or a Jayco Seneca 37TS, both new models and quite a bit of size difference. Any opinions out there on one vs. another? We are retired and plan to make many trips to AK and Pacific northwest to visit children. Some winter travel to southern states will also be involved. We plan to tow a vehicle that would be under 5,000 lb. We plan to camp in public lands and not much use of RV parks. Thanks for any opinions.
