It is time we get back on topic. Wayne Moderator Yea, this kind of got away from camper disposal... Sorry Wayne. Unfortunately we have gone through our finances again, and the new camper is a bad decision for us. So I'm going to have to find a way to replace our rusted out old bumper so we can go camping again. The old camper isn't in dumpster shape, to be honest, I recently recaulked the entire roof, and every single seam on the camper. At least she's water tight! :) I just didn't want a big hassle with getting rid of something that wasn't worth much. In fact in some ways the corner jacks are even more vulnerable to damage. The Stable Lift tucks up pretty nicely and is a LOT stronger and more durable. It can take a pretty good hit that would tear a corner jack right off your camper. The ultimate would be corner jacks removed while on the truck, but if you're doing that serious off roading you probably won't be carrying a camper. For the record I agree- I love mine, I have worked on the cabover part of the roof with it off the truck and not had it move a millimeter. It's solid as a rock. It may just be more hassle than I am interested in to move it to the new camper. I'm going to take this one step at a time- You guys have had a wide variety of ideas, and I really appreciate your input.Re: Truck Camper Disposal? d3500ram wrote: Or advertise the Stable Lift for $500 with the caveat that the buyer has to take the whole schmee. This may be the genius suggestion... I like it a lot. I think the electric jacks may work ok for me, we'll see. If they prove to be reasonably stable I won't need the stable lift.Re: Truck Camper Disposal? towpro wrote: put it this way. if its sound enough to unload it without it falling apart, someone will want it as a project. I would list it on CL for maybe $500, than see what pans out. you can always lower price or let them talk you down, but you can't change your price up. also, is the old stable lift system (2, 3, 4 jacks) going to be compatible with the camper you will buy to replace your current camper? If NO, sell it with camper attached :). Excellent point! One other thing to consider is that the new camper I have in mind has electric jacks. I just don't know if that's as good as the stable lift. I use my camper less now than I used to... I may just sell it with the stable lift and call it a day.Re: Truck Camper Disposal? covered wagon wrote: Go to a small town dump where its not a zoo. Nice quiet country dump. Set it down on stack of pallets. Take time to remove stable lift system. Dumps heavy equipment rolls it into dump pile. Don't damage your truck by having it yanked of the bed of the truck, use the stable loads to unload first. Excellent advice, thanks.Re: Truck Camper Disposal?Wow, a ton of great suggestions! I am going to pull some of my parts off it, like my battery monitor and maybe my deep cycle AGMs (They're very old though), then I'll advertise it for $50 on CL, saying that they have to come, I'll put it on their truck with the stable lift, then unbolt the stable lift. If that doesn't work I'll find a landfill with a forklift. :) Thanks very much!Truck Camper Disposal?Hey all- It's finally time to let go of my '92 Lance. It's in pretty ratty shape, and while that's fine for me it's not so fine for me and my SO at the same time. So I'm going to be moving on to a TC with a slide, and I need to take the old one somewhere to dispose of it. I have a stable lift on it, and want to move that to my new camper, whatever that is. Since the Lance doesn't have jacks anymore, since the stable lift, I'm not sure how I'd get it off the truck... So I think in essence I'm just not quite sure how to go about getting rid of it. Any thoughts? All the best-Re: Escape Hatch Cover Stolen the bear II wrote: An escape hatch makes a pretty big sail. If you left it open even a small amount wind gusts coming from just the right direction could remove it. provided one of the lock screws was missing from the hinge. I had a roof vent disappear during a very strong wind storm. I no longer leave them cracked open. Or a thief was attempting to get in to your camper and was scared off once they removed the escape hatch. I've lost vents too- Watched one sail away in the wind in Montana. :) I'll go through the camper again, but I have a heap of tools in there and nothing was changed that I could see. There were also undisturbed items below the hatch, on the bed. My thought was someone just wanted the hatch cover, but otherwise wasn't a "thief". They cost close to $100, so I can see why someone would gank it, but I would really prefer to believe that it was the wind. I'll settle for just securing this one so I don't have a repeat customer, if someone did take it. Thanks- GhostEscape Hatch Cover StolenHey all- I went back to my storage space to check on my camper, and found that my escape hatch above the cabover was gone. Nothing was left- No scraps of plastic from wind, no hinge, nothing. It looks like a very clean removal. The hatch itself is still there, with the screen and the mechanism for raising/lowering, but the cover was gone. Is it possible it was stolen? I've had lumber stolen out of this yard before, but no one has thus far actually got on top of my Lance and stolen anything. Of course during the time it was gone we had the one day of rain in the San Francisco area in like a year, so my bed is now mildewed and for the most part ruined. Does anyone have any idea of how to prevent the escape hatch, which is screwed on from the outside, from being stolen? Maybe security screws, or using jbweld to secure the screws in place? Thanks- Ghost.Re: What's behind the name? Screen name that is.A ghost is a loose translation of the Japanese idea of soul, which is more comprehensive than "soul" but includes it. Maybe "personality" might be a good way to describe the additional aspects... "Being" perhaps. It is also what I'll "be" when I figure out what I'm supposed to be doing here, and gaze upon Hashem, "the light". Zero is what I am without it.
