I'm pretty happy with my 3000 watt Wen Power generator (PowerPro Model 3500D 6.5 HP) from PepBoys. It has already seen me through one short power outage. I paid a pretty reasonable $250 plus tax on it after the $50 mail-in rebate, which put it just under the cost of their competition. I think the price has gone up a bit since then with the rebate still set at $50. However, for those considering the purchase of a generator from PepBoys, consider this: a $50 rebate is not worth $50 if you never get it. Mine never came. Instead, I got a postcard from "Pep Boys Auto Resubmit" saying that the "The receipt(s) submitted did not show the purchase of any qualifying items." Fortunately, I made copies of everything and, yes, the receipt exactly matches the item on the multi-page fill-in form plus all the times and eligible dates check out. I couldn't figure out why the sales clerk was insistent that he help me fill out their long rebate form, but he did it exactly right from what I can see. Nor, can I figure out why a quality retailer would want to hurt their reputation with this kind of thing. I'll invite PepBoys to reconsider their rejection, of course, but who wants that kind of hassle over just $50? If the check ever does show up, I'll post a quick note here. --John I filled mine out ( that means my wife di it), mailed it in and had a check within 3 weeks. I thought it was speedy for a rebate. Overall very happy with the power pro and pep boys. Always starts on the first or second pull. Easy on fuel. quiet for what it is.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.the low cost hour meter link. doesn't seem to workRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.John, I can't that link to go anywhere, it cannot display it. is there another link? thanks, ScottRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.John, very good info on the tests. I've put about 20 hours on mine just messing around with it. Never fails to start on the first pull, unless you don't set the choke! For fun, I had my 26 cuft fridge, freezer, 32 inch tv, dvd player, pool pump, 20 inch tv pluuged into 2 12 gauge extension cords. Had them running off the generator for around 5 hours. Never missed a beat, even the crushed ice dispenser worked! I'm very pleased with it. Should work well in a power outage. I plan on doing the mod CCTAU documented for the rv hookup. Great pics! ScottRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.John, I have no idea where to get that plug. I found the picture of it on this thread or another. From the way it is wired, i'm guessing my heavy duty extention cord isn't up to snuff, and that was causing the generator to kick out. Let me know how your test goes when you get back! have fun. I'm gonna mess around with it this weekend. CCTAU, it looks like that adapter is a 3 lug, the power pro has 4 lug twist lock. I was looking for one of those as well.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.here is a picture of the wiring on the newer Power Pro 3500 The tab between the outlets is in place and on the red and blue wires going to it. What does this tell you? does this help any? Edited to reduce picture width - MelRe: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.John, actually I haven't popped a breaker yet, the generator cuts out than comes back on in about 10 seconds. this is after loading up over 15 amps, on a single outlet, I can take the grinder that put me over the limit and plug it in to the other outlet and it runs fine so you get 13.5 amps on each outlet. I was kind of hoping to get full amperage out of one outlet for running a power saw. 18amp start up. I really like this generator, I was thinking of getting one of those 1.2kw 2 cycle jobs to keep in my work truck. Wildfire is the brand. Is this the right type of adapter for an rv? Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Long time lurker around here. I also purchased one of the newer Power Pro 3500 from Pep boys last week. From looking at the wiring diagram, and from plugging things in, it appears to be only 13.5 amps per outlet. I'll scan the diagram later tonite. I would like it to be full power on one outlet! This has been a fascinating thread to read! Power Pro 3500 Wiring Diagram, New Model Overall, I'm very happy with it. I tried to get a Champion thru parts america, but even with the 10% off code, with shipping it was not an option. No one carries it locally. Primarily this is used for back up around the house. Here it is with a home made wheel kit, from items found in the shed. Home made wheel kit I did want to add this. I filled it with oil, filled it with gas, flipped the switch, started on the first pull out of the box. Very light pull to start it. I've run it aobut 10 hours, changed the oil. Runs great
