My feeling is with a 12' door, your not going to have room for your future camper. I'm 11'6" to the top of AC, and the lance is a older, non basement model. Here are a few pics. Re: Ordered Lance struts todayJoel, I have them, and like them alot. But my experince is they DO not elimiate the bounce or porpising, but they do a great job of controling it. If your porpising is bad enough to consider selling it, you may have some other sort of problem with your setup. You gotta love the roads here in MN.Re: Question.. Increasing payload on Silverado 2500HD DieselGary, Ive been through the same game, But incresing for tire cap does nothing for you, because the 16x6.5wheels are only rated for 3040. I ended up getting Alcoa 16x7 wheel, rated for 3750lbs and going with 265/75/16 tire at 3415lbs. With air bags, sway bar and KYB monomax shocks, my 2500HD does very well with my 3800lb Lance. I like your user name, very close to mine.Black Hills South Dakota Trip ReportWe have not used the TC for 3 years now, the seasonal spot at the lake have taken priority. Feeling guilty for not using it, I planned a trip to the Black Hills. This was our 1st, long trip with it in 7 years of owning it, all trips up till this have been 250 miles or less. Over all, I was very pleased with how well the truck handled the 3800lb TC. I ended up working a half day, the day I planned to leave. We got 250 miles in and stopped for the night at Cabela's in Owatonna, MN. They have a nice lot for RV's to stop for the night. We got a early start the next morning, and made it to Mitchel, SD, home of the Corn Palace, it was under construction, so we didn't spend a lot of time there. We crossed the Missouri river in Chamberlain, and Abigail wanted to swim, so we got a hotel with a swimming pool for the night. The next day was a stop at Wall Drug. Abigail made friends with some of the locals. From there we made it to Hill City, where we spotted our 1st big horn sheep. Shortly after, we made it Custer, where Big Pine Campground is. We picked it because it is close to all the attractions we wanted to see. Most all the sites are shaded, level, and spacious. Our site was $37 a night, with full hookups. We unloaded the TC, had dinner, and turned in early after a long day of driving. We woke up all ready to go see the sights when Abigail looks at us and says, "Mom and Dad, I don't feel good." Needless to say, we didn't leave the camper for the next two days. She had come down with a stomach virus. By the 3rd day she was ready to go! We started off by driving the Needles Highway. Next stop was Crazy horse Monument, still a lot of work to do. Next day sights. Next was the petting zoo, Abigail got a big kick out this! Next drive was the Iron Mountain road, and at the top is a MUST stop! The Peter Norbeck over look, the views are stunning, these pics don't do it justice. On the way back to the campground we went through the wild-life loop at Custer State Park. After 3 days of driving past this place, Abigail got her wish, Ice Cream! Our last day, Cathy wanted to shop at some of the towns, she shopped in Hill City, Keystone, and Custer. We had a few hours left, so we stopped at the Four Mile ghost town, quite interesting, we all enjoyed it. Being a surveyor, I liked the surveyor shack, Cathy being a teacher, she liked the school house. 9 days and 1900 miles later, we still love the TC.I-90 from Minnesota to Rapid cityCan any one give me an idea of the road surface of I-90 say from Albert Lea to Rapid City? We will be going to the Black Hills in a few weeks, and have heard it is in rough shape. I have never traveled I-90, so I thought I'd ask you guys.Re: Where can I find steel 16x8" 8 lug wheels for 2500HDSorry for the big pic, I tryed to shrink it, but had no luck.Re: Where can I find steel 16x8" 8 lug wheels for 2500HDJoe, I have been through the same run-a-around, and the best info I could come up with is the stock "PYO" alum wheels on the 2500HD are 16x6.5 and good for 3100lbs, the steel wheels on the 3500HD are 16x7 and good for 3500lbs.(02'-08') I'm not sure the year they went to 17" wheels, think it was in 09'. I ended up going with Alcoa 16x7 alum, rated for 3750lbs. I didn't want 19.5 wheels, way to harsh of a ride for me, and I didn't want a steel wheel, personaly don't like the look. Re: Bigfoot Camper is Hurting Tonight!!FreeLanceing, You may be correct in saying I don't get the snow you do, but we do average over 125 inches a season. That is a Morton build building, and trust me, they do not cut any corners, they build one of the best, if not the best pole building in the business. They also warranty the structure and roof against wind and snow load for 50 years, I guarantee you will not find better warranty is the business. They have the best structural engineers designing there plans, so yes, they know how to build a pole building.Re: Bigfoot Camper is Hurting Tonight!!Paul, I hope it's not as bad as it looks. And your next roof should look similar to this. Re: Any one have a Lance 821 on a GMC 2500?Jack, I have an 02 821 that I carry on a 2005 2500HD. With a full tank of diesel, and me in it, all tanks in camper empty, but loaded for a weekend of camping, I was 11,020lbs on a cat scale, 6740 on rear and 4280 on front. Now I'm guessing your GVWR is 10,000 vs mine 9200. You didn't say what year 821 you're looking at. I'm betting it's 04 or 05 which puts it around 300lbs heavier than mine(02 was 2800lb dry,03-05 were 3080 dry). Mine has just about every option available in 02 including a genny and is 3700-3800lbs ready to camp, but no water in tanks. I added air bags, sway bar and upgraded the shocks, wheels and tires to handle the weight. Hope this helps.
