First towed it with a Chevy Trailblazer, and it did ok, but 65mph was a a real struggle, even in the hills of CT. We then went to a suburban to pull the popul. What a dream to tow. We then went to a 23’ hybrid with 6200lb gvwr, things went backwards. Was a reallly bad towing experience. Struggled to keep 65mph up the hills l, even here n CT. We then went to a Ram 2500, and again it was like a treaam to.Re: Diesel Fuel Mileage Est.We just returned from our trip in the Adirondacks. We averaged 12.9mpg and expected a bit higher since we were coming down out of the Adirondacks, (left side of graph. ) See pic for map and elevation change. Re: Ram 2500 6.4 or Titan XD 5.6?having gone from 1/2 gasser to 3/4 gasser to 3/4 diesel, I would highly recommend you go with the heavier towing platform (GVWR 10,000, 6K rear axle rating, et...), especially if you are considering upgrading from 7700lb trailer in the future. Either XD or 2500 RAM will have sufficient power, but you will want the extra payload capacity. If the $ are about equivalent, get "more truck". The 2500 rams ride real nice. F150 Ecoboost with HDPP could be another 1/2 ton option, but that wasn't listed as one of your choices.Re: F-150 HDPP towing 37 ft TT ** 1,300 miles later**My 2500 is inadequate compared to a F-450. Clearly I made a mistake. :-) Miles might be right that some of the the specs on his XD might be higher than the OP's F-150, but if it works for him, then it works for him. Some pilots are ok flying a single engine plane across the ocean. Most pilots are ok flying a dual-engine plane across the ocean. Every pilot is ok flying a quad-engine plane across the ocean. It's all about risk vs performance.Re: Hitch SetUp Question for new TTAhh...ok, thanks for the clarification.Re: F-150 HDPP towing 37 ft TT ** 1,300 miles later**Thanks for the report. I just finished a 170mile leg on our current camping trip with our new 38' 8800lbs (dry) (10,900 GVWR) TT. I'm pulling with a 2500 diesel though (for reasons I can tell you if you want to know). As I'm sure you have gathered, there is much sage advice on this forum. Everyone is speaking from their own experiences and/or info gathered over the years. We are all here to gather info, conduct research.. to help us make better decisions/solve problems, and your input is very valuable. Some will say go for it, "you'll be fine", and others live by always staying within the envelope of specifications. The thing that sucks is that you can think you have all the math right, only to find out afterwards you bought the wrong truck, or wrong TT. Having to redo either/both of those purchases is very painful...hence many around here suggest to error on the side of extra towing/payload/weight capacity, vs living near the limits. It sounds like you feel confident about your current decision, and that your current setup works for you, albiet as you admit, you have a total of a few days of towing experience under your belt....vs many here who have been towing for decades. Technology does change, and trucks are able to do more and more, year after year, but at the end of the day, its all about mass, friction, and power...you can't fight physics. Hope you get many enjoyable camping trips with your set up! I have a new set up (new TV and TT) and want to share my experiences as much as possible, for the hopeful benefit of others. Likewise, I'm looking forward to hearing more reports as you gather more and more experience with your new rig.Re: Diesel Fuel Mileage Est.We just arrived at a campground 170 mile away towing new 38'TT (8856lbs empty), but fully rigged out (guessing 9200-9500lbs). Lots of elevation changes going through the Berkshires and Adirondacks, but kept the cruise control on 67mph. Truck average is 12mpg. When not towing, truck gets ~22mpg.Re: TPMS on trailer tiresI have the same system, and 2x on checking the rubber stems. HOWEVER, whenever we make a stop, I quickly grab this from my glovebox and check the tire sidewall AND caliper temps of the TV (drums of the TT) to find any signs of a hanging brake caliper/shoe, bearing failure, or tire issue. IR Temp GunRe: Hitch SetUp Question for new TTHannibal - so you run just WD, and NO sway control at all?Re: Hitch SetUp Question for new TTTrip Report- Just completed fully loaded trip yesterday. 3hrs, 170miles, though the Bershires and Adirondacks. Kept the cruise control on 67mph, tow/haul mode, auto exhaust brake mode. Truck did great bringing the TT up to speed, and also slowing it down. No real noticeable sway, but it was a relatively calm day. Once or twice I did feel very little of what I call ‘vacuum pull’ when passed by a big rig, but nothing alarming. Keep in mind I had the dual friction bars cranked down a lot...made awful noises when making tight turns. Was it as ‘care free’ as previous trips with the old camper? No, but then again, this was the first trip out, so i had my ‘radar’ tuned up pretty high. I’ll report back should I encounter a situation where I think the dual friction bars are not doing the job.
