There are a couple of trailers with a room that doesn’t require modifications. These come rather close to the max towable, which I didn’t want to do. And I won’t be buying a new truck when my truck has only about 73k on it.Re: Modifying A BunkhouseI feel my daughter needs a place to be able to play with her toys out of the way. There are a few trailers that have a legitimate room but these would push the truck to its max weight allowance and I’d prefer not to do that. I suppose an actual room also makes for a more personal space and would be nice to have as she gets a bit older. I wouldn’t want to block any windows, especially if they were the emergency exit type. For the closet I’ve figured it could easily be an open design with no doors. Regardless there are multiple windows (2 along the back and 2 along the side) so it shouldn’t be too dark. SWMBO has brought up the toy hauler option as well, but I’ve not been quite as happy with the couple I looked at. Maybe I should go back through them and really look at the options. Honestly I didn’t give them much thought.Re: Modifying A BunkhouseThe pic won’t post. There are various trailers I’m interested in but my favorite so far is the Keystone Outback 276UBH.Modifying A BunkhouseWe’ve been contemplating full time RVing for potentially a few years. We have a 9 yr old daughter and she will need her own space. Many of the RVs within the weight ratings don’t have an actual bedroom but are bunkhouses. We certainly don’t require that much sleeping space and I’ve been pondering how difficult or feasible it would be to totally rework this area. The outdoor kitchen is a must and I’ve been contemplating if there’s any reason why I could remove the section of the lower bunk beyond the wall that contains the outdoor kitchen. This would give a little space to become “the room.” And the area left covering the kitchen would become storage. Next I’ve wondered about cutting out the additional bed area of the top bunk to open that “room” up. Thinking I could leave a small portion of the top bunk to create a shelf and below it up against the back wall a closet could be installed. Also figuring a bit of framing along the edge of the top bunk bracing it against the forward wall (opposite of the pantry) to give it rigidity. Also thinking I could keep the exterior storage but shortening it to the depth of the closet I’d add. This is one of my favored trailers: Has anyone undertaken a project such as this? Re: Need to Winterize in TX?If the lines have been blown why is antifreeze necessary? And what of the fresh water lines/tank? How do you ensure this is cleaned properly before use?Re: neat way of adding more solarVery nice idea indeed!Micro Air A/C Initial Amp Draw ReductionI'm curious who's installed and used these and what they've thought of it, especially with a smaller (~2000 cal watt) generator. Here's their videos: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=soP0uZFd0nQ https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p2K0ptvYb6Q I had thought the small Honda generator was about all I'd likely need until I was shown the compressor startup was just too much for it. Not only is the light weight appealing, but the quiet running aspect and fuel efficiency.Re: How Long Can I Be Offgrid?2 1/2 people (7 yr old daughter). We intend to stay put during school down here where we are (great school district #10 in state of Texas). So it would be summering that we'd potentially do off grid living. An A/C, all depending, would be a must so we'd have a generator. We backpack a fair amount so a bird bath is easily doable. We do drink a lot of water. I can be very conservationally minded, but the girls not so much. This goes for electricity as well. Hopefully that can be cured rather quickly and certainly. This trailer holds 43 gals fresh, 38 gals grey/black, and has two 20 lb LPG tanks that I may swap out for 30's.Re: Keeping Cooler During TransitI did check with them as the Passports do have a second A/C option, but this one in particular is too short and does not have that option. It is ducted.Re: Keeping Cooler During TransitA filter can be made for the vent if needed. I'll likey do without the first time just to see as we'd certainly be unhappy if it smelled like diesel fumes. I even have a charcoal filter I could hack up. I can get a 15k BTU A/C in place of the 13.5k, which ill want to do, and I've downloaded an app that allows you to work most anything in the RV so I can slide out the living area and turn on the A/C once I've parked it without having to go in a sweltering sauna.
