I was just asking if the simple equation was correct or not. Don't believe I'm going to listen to someone who tell me that the numbers don't mean anything and that they can be ignored. I don't believe I'm going to find the answer here. Thank you for your replies.Re: Understanding Weight CapcityGTW is Gross Trailer Wt. GCWR is published in the specs of every vehicle... and it means something. It's the Gross Combined Weight Rating.Re: Understanding Weight CapcityNegligence is defined as failure to use reasonable care, resulting in damage or injury to another. Ignoring the manufacturers weight limits that might cause or contribute to an accident could lead to risk to my safety and the safety of others on the road. In addition, the legal people and insurance people aren't going to be your friends. Sorry, but I'll skip this advise.Understanding Weight CapcityI posted this question on a different forum and have not received understanding....so I'll try here. I trying to understand the relationship between weight ratios so I can make sure I know what capacities are and to ensure I don't exceed them. I would like to know if the simple formula below is correct. I assume everyone would know what the abbreviated variable are. Perhaps: GVW = Curb Wt + Payload GVW = Curb Wt + Cargo Wt + Hitch Wt. Max. GTW = GCWR - GVWPublished Guides / ReviewsAnyone have an opinion on the RV Consumer Groups publication "RV Rating Guide" or the other book "Travel Trailer & Fifth Wheel Comparison Guide". Also, someone mentioned Trailer Life Magazine, but all I found was an online site. Any comments?Re: Does HEARTLANDS trailers have a high quality build?"some brands are better...some are great with few problems"....who knows what those better brands are? The reason some manufacturers get away with dumping junk, cheap RV on the market, is because we allow it. If we share reputable statistical data (surveys) so we the buying consumer learns from those bad experience, we would most likely stop buying and force them to up their quality or go out of business. It can't just be one persons bad experience...we need the data....2% is different from 45%. That's my two centsOldest 5th Wheel on the RoadJust wondering. What's the oldest fifth wheel trailer still running down the road. I've heard a fair amount about RV's aren't' built the way they used to be.Re: Does HEARTLANDS trailers have a high quality build? My wife retires in 2 months and we were thinking of buying a truck and fifth wheel and hitting the road. I joined this forum to learn what I could. After reading this thread, I'm thinking I'd be better off staying in hotels. I get to travel, no investment, no problems. But no wait, I had a flat tire once, so I'm never going to buy another car, so maybe I'll stay home mow grass and play cross word puzzles.Re: I'm so new I don't even have an RVAnyone have an opinion on the book "Travel Trailer & Fifth Wheel Comparison Guide"? Is it worth the price and time to read?
