Try and think of any Travel Trailer experienced friends, neighbors, or anyone that you can think of to spend some quality time teaching you about your travel trailer. That would be so much easier and more informative than trying to sort through all the replies you are going to get. Almost all RVers take pride in the hobby and enjoy showing others how they work. Heck, the first thing I did is looked to see if you were close by so that I could help.Re: Ram 2500 4x4 issuesThanks for the info. Just curious, how many miles does your Ram have on it? I am on my 2nd Ram 2500, the first was a 2015 and now a 2017. Never a single problem with either of them so far.Re: hot brakeI recently had the same problem and fixed it myself after Lippert sent me new everything at their cost. Search my thread under General RVing issues, TT brake sticking. If you read my last post you will see what I found. It's very likely you have the same problem with the arm that holds the magnet having too much "play" in it. When I was dealing with my problem I also found a YouTube video on this problem also. Hope this helps.Re: Self-adjusting Drum BrakesI'm not sure what your question is. If you are thinking of attempting to put Dexter brakes on Lippert axles, don't do it. The two are almost identical in design, but my guess is that mixing the two won't even work. Are you planning to replace everything, such as the backing plate and hub assemblies? I just dealt with Lippert on my Lippert axles and brakes and did all the work myself, so I learned a lot in the process. If not replacing the hub assemblies make sure you thoroughly clean and repack the bearings and replace the grease seals while you are in there.Re: Need 5th wheel advice and inputI'm on my second new Jayco Travel Trailer and I won't buy anything else, unless something changes down the road. I have only had minor problems on both of them and they were problems associated with other manufacturers (such as water heater, furnace, and Lippert axles) and not Jayco. I have had good luck with my dealer as well as Jayco. For years I have helped family members with their "other brand" Travel Trailers and I have seen some "shoddy" work that I have never seen on my Jayco's.Re: Backing up a steep driveway in 4WD Low gear?It really would depend on how often you will be doing this. Once or twice shouldn't hurt anything. But if this is something you will be doing often then it is really going to cause a lot of wear on the driveline, or worse. If it were me I would stay in 2 wheel drive high for both 90 degree turns and do the straight part of the hill in 4 wheel drive low. The "binding" that occurs when turning while in 4 wheel drive needs to be able to release the pressure, which is done by slipping the inside rear tire and the outside front tire. It will be even more difficult for that release of pressure to occur with the additional 7000 pounds of weight on concrete.Re: Axle problem with 2016 Jayco White Hawk 27 DSRLI didn't have a any issues at all with my BAL frame and Dexter axles. And the only issue I have had with the Lippert frame and axles is with a faulty brake from the factory, which Lippert quickly sent me new ones, no questions asked. The Lippert frame seems to be more beefy, but then again I went with a slightly larger TT. I can only speak for the current "bigger" lineup that they all have the Lippert frame and axles, I have no idea about the "smaller" units. But, as you pointed out, it would be more cost savings if they stuck with one frame manufacturer across the board. You are correct, it was around the time that Thor purchased Jayco that they switched to the Lippert frames.Re: Axle problem with 2016 Jayco White Hawk 27 DSRLmyredracer and troubledwaters up until 2015 you are correct on Jayco using BAL and Dexter. After that everything is Lippert. My 2015 26 BH had a BAL frame and Dexter axles. My 2017 is all Lippert. Most likely the OP is correct in that he has all Lippert.Re: Axle problem with 2016 Jayco White Hawk 27 DSRLMy 2017 Jayco 28 BHBE (slightly longer and slightly heavier) has 4400 pound Lippert axles on it. I know this because I just had to deal with Lippert on an issue with the brakes. Other than that the axles have been fine with no problems at all. After reading what Lynnmor wrote maybe the 4400 pound axles would be something to suggest to Jayco or your dealer. I agree with Old-Biscuit, go straight through Jayco or better yet straight to Lippert like I did, cutting out all the middle men. I personally had very good dealing with Lippert on my brake issue. It is odd that you have had this happen twice now on a mostly new TT. I'm sure that your TT isn't the only one that Jayco/Lippert has installed these axles on. Therefore if it is a manufacturer problem then you shouldn't be alone. If you are indeed alone on this issue then it sounds like something on your end. Lots of good suggestions here.Re: TT brake sticking, any experience with this problemI wanted to revisit my topic to share with everyone what I found out this past weekend. Mother Nature finally gave me a chance to get in there and investigate. What I found was a bit of a surprise, keeping in mind that my TT is less than a year old and very low miles. The arm that holds the magnet, that moves and pushes the brake pads out to make contact with the drum, the bushing in that arm is worn out and oval shaped causing way too much play in the entire arm. When the brakes are applied and then released the arm would then get stuck on the brake pad assembly preventing the brakes from being completely released. After some searching I actually found a YouTube video concerning this problem on a high mileage utility trailer. Other than that everything else was still in new condition and dry of grease. Next I contacted Lippert (LCI) and made a warranty claim with them. To my surprise this went much better than I ever expected. I explained my problem to the Customer Service Rep, who told me that this was only the second time he had ever heard of this on a new TT. After provided him with the necessary information about my TT he sent it over to the Parts Department and had them send me two entire brake and hub assemblies, everything included, no questions asked. He suggested that I change everything on both ends of the same axle that way braking would be matched. So my first experience with Lippert was a pleasant one and my problem should soon be fixed, giving me back my peace of mind. Hope this helps someone in the future.
