Right now we have 3 kids in the back of ours and they do fine. They tow much nicer and wind does not seem to affect them like a travel trailer. Have you thought about renting a truck and going for a road trip to see how you all fit for a longer drive? If you are full time, you will want the separate bunk space for the kids to have their own space. Its nice at night to be able to close the door and still be able to use the living space without waking them up. You will also be amazed at how you will seem to fill the space in a larger trailer with more stuff and more weight. One thing to think of is where you plan to go. Some spots are hard to get into with longer trailers if you get too big.Re: New to towing, hitch weight questionCheck your manual. Sometimes there are different ratings if you use a distribution hitch. For what its worth I think that the 10k gross is to much for a 1500. Mine was 7200 and I wouldn't do much more than that.Re: Looking to upgrade to a fifth wheel.towingplanner.com has some great weight info. You can enter your weights and it will help calculate thing out for you. My 5th wheel is 14k on the scale and just about 3k pin weight. There are a lot of people that pull mid sized 5th wheels with 3/4 trucks. We had to upgrade from a 1500 and went straight to the 3500.Re: Ice cream?I have heard it has to be on the bottom left. Must be the way the coils are that it's colder in that spot. We usually have ice cream along and it has always worked for us.Re: Water FiltersI got two whole house filters and put them together. First filter is a simple 5 micron sediment filter, the second is a carbon filter. I made a bracket so they hang under the camper when in use in case of leaks. Set up costs about $50 and then less than the throw away filters for replacement cartridges. We use bottled water or gallons of RO for drinks and ice, but it is nice to keep the junk and smells out of the lines and faucets.Re: Screwing into shower wall? So, what is the difference between a screw that is siliconed vs. the plastic plugs they use at the factory that have no sealant on them at all? I agree, less holes is better but for the record, I mounted a holder in mine with screws. I siliconed the hole and the screws to make sure its sealed. It also up high out of the spray zone. I also took out all of the factory plastic plugs, siliconed the holes and plugs before putting them back in. I don't see how those don't let water in.Re: SuperLube AxlesNothing special, just a lot of grease to clean up if they used it from the factory or at PDI.Re: New Carpet for the Slide OutNever done carpet before, but would the tension from stretching the carpet cause issues over time with the floor or anything like that? Thinking that it might cause warping or separation.Re: Dealer Service RantI am in the same frustrated spot as you. Took our 5th wheel in in March to have wheel bearings done since the original owner said he has never done them. Had him go over the rest of the rig as well. Trying to save some time working and camp instead. He said seals look good. I went through almost a tube of sealant touching up windows and trim. Had him put in my Maxxair fans. Had to reseal them as they weren't even lap sealed in a lot of places. The bearings, well not sure what he did there. I have been having issues with the brakes so I adjusted them, A lot!. Didn't help. Pulled a hub last week and there is probably a tube of grease in the thing. The brake pads are wore down to almost nothing. Why didn't he say that? So I have new brake assemblies and seals showing up so I can do the job right this time.
