That way I get the color and the protection. I will post pics of the covers after I stain them. Thompsons water seal is not 'food safe'. Use mineral oil instead. Also, it would be best not to stain it with a wood stain as they are also not 'food safe'. Shari Yeah, we actually hadn't intended to cut on it. It's initial purpose was just to add counter space. But using it at a possible cutting board is great idea, so I will pick up some mineral oil to get some color out of it and keep it safe to eat off of should we decide to do so.Re: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012 Cyndi H wrote: Larry - I really, really like the idea of a sink cover for just one of the 2 sinks - now that would be more practical - since I'd still have access to one of the sinks during meal preparation. I have a crafty friend who just might make me one! LOL! My $11.00 sink covers Took a trip to Lowes after calling CW and being quoted over $50.00 for a set of their covers. Lowes had "stain grade" pine panels and they were already the perfect width. My sink is 16" x 30". The panel was 36" so I had them cut 6" off the end and cut the remaining piece in half at 15". I made a template for the cutout of the faucet and jigsawed it out. Then sanded the corners. It fits perfect and does the trick. I still have to stain them to match the cabinets. Not too shabby for 15mins work. And best of all DW came out and said "I love em!" Those covers are great. After you stain them are you going to coat them with something water proof to keep the finish from getting food or grease stained? Maybe the stain will be enough?:@ I'm thinking of using Thompsons water seal stain. That way I get the color and the protection. Ours didn't come with any. We won't use them until after the feast is prepared that's when they come in handy.:)Re: Cool Mods - Thread restored 10/18/2012Not really a unique mod, but I thought I'd share.
