All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: 50 amp outletThe 50 amp connector has two 120 volt sides, each rated 50 amps. They are on opposing legs and will measure 240 volts line to line. The top and bottom pins are ground and neutral. The sides each measure 120 volts to either the neutral or ground and 240 from one side to the other. This video gives an excellent explanation of the connection, both 30 and 50 amp. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoOR2AJGjOI RussRe: Battery Disconnect Switch QuestionsI have a little different take on the device. I removed the disconnect switch from my rig and wired directly from the battery to the distribution bus. That eliminates two cable connections and the switch contact resistance. It might not sound like much but that takes a little resistance out of the circuit and makes for just a tiny bit more voltage being available. Yes I'm nitpicking but a few hundredths to a tenth of a volt can be significant when load is high or batteries become a little older. Just use a small wrench to disconnect the negative cable from the battery when you need. There will be no chance of various sensors causing a slow drain on the battery when disconnected. Just my opinion. RussRe: King_of_the_Road Fresh Water Tank suction (none)On two occasions when I replaced a water pump, I had to clean the inlet filter mounted next to the pump. It acted just like you described before I cleaned the filter. Soaking the screen in some hot vinegar for a few minutes and then brushing it out seemed to do the trick. I just replaced it the last time it happened. RussRe: TV staticThe ferrites should go around both wires to the motor and as close to the motor as possible. Also a bypass capacitor could me added across the wires as close to the motor as possible between the ferrites and the motor. I'd guess .1 to .01 mfd at a few hundred volts. This takes a little soldering. The ready made RF suppressor is a good idea and might be a little easier to install; again as close to the motor as possible. RussRe: West Texas Whippin'Midland RV Campground. 2134 S Midland Drive, Midland, TX 432-697-0801 Take Midkiff exit and go West on North Service road to Midland Drive (about 3/4 mile)then North about a block. Even when they are full of workers, they keep a row of FHU sites available for short term use. RussRe: I seem to have a knack for destroying my black tankI have successfully patched a black tank with pvc/cpvc/abs glue and fiberglass spackling tape. Clean the surface and then use successive applications of glue and fiberglass tape, overlapping the tape and spreading the area as needed to make a secure patch. I've done this kind of patch and it seems to hold well. Another patch I've heard people use is Eternabond roof tape although it might be better suited to a small crack than a large gash. I also like Old Biscuit's method. RussRe: How do you seal a sewer hoseI have wrapped a lot of teflon tape around a connector before finishing with a big hose clamp. It worked pretty well. RussRe: Niagra Falls - Where to camp??If you can settle for plain vanilla, the Cinderella motel and campsites on Grand island works. They take Passport America. RussRe: Fifth Wheel Wiring Issue?I agree with the converter being a likely suspect. The older ones were a brute force variety and ought to be replaced as a matter of course. I second (or third) the need for a voltmeter and learning to use it properly. Sounds like you did that now that I re-read your post. Replacing a converter is not difficult but read the instructions and be sure you have it wired properly before you apply power. Also be sure you hook it with proper polarity to the battery. RussRe: ELECTRICITYI have been a few campgrounds that had only 50 amp service, no 30 or 15 on the pedestals. I'd guess that would not be a problem in a state park. The dog bone adapters are a good thing to have with you in any case. Russ
