The tech who removed the toilet said it was a composite material that would break if he tried to flatten it. Apparently what happened was the toilet was improperly reinstalled after a defective blade was replaced. Glad to hear "a flange is a flange." The toilet's mounting flange has been bent and I'm getting a leak where the toilet meets the floor. Thetford tells me the mounting flange and bushing are not replaceable parts (which I found to be incredible).
