I can understand if you need to be at a certain place with time restrictions. You can opt to stay on I-65 and go through Birmingham but there is road construction at several interchanges and you may or may not encounter a delay. The road is rough in places and the rush hour traffic can be as bad as Atlanta at times.I can tell you that I-22 from Birmingham to Memphis is very good with minimal traffic. There is a new connector ramp off of I-65 onto I-22 that makes a smooth transition. There are truck stops along the way if you need fuel, food, rest, etc. I just like to travel the US highways when possible just to see America. Safe travels and enjoy the ride!Re: St. Louis to Central FLI had a stop to make on the way to Meridian, MS. Yes, US 82 is also a good road as I have been on it too. Also US 84 is mostly four lane going from Georgia across to Evergreen, AL. We try to stay off of Interstates when we can as there is less traffic on the US Highways plus we want to see something besides miles of concrete. I am originally from the St. Louis Metro area but I live here in Central Florida as permanent resident. Been here 21 years now.Re: St. Louis to Central FLI just returned from St. Louis to Central Florida last summer. I took I-55 south to Memphis,( I-269 is a loop around Memphis that is an easy drive to I-22) picked up I-22 to Tupelo, MS then turned south on US 45 to Meridian, MS then east on US 80 to Montgomery, AL then south on US 231 to I-10. I avoided Birmingham, AL as there is all kinds of road construction around that area and it is slow going with traffic delays plus rough road. This is a good choice with less traffic. Atlanta is a nightmare to get through due to traffic and construction. I live out side of Orlando so if I can be of additional help let me know.Safe travels and enjoy the trip!Re: Campground on 78 between Memphis and TupeloThe only place I have stayed on that route is Campground at Barnes Crossing. It is located on the north side of Tupelo. Nice stop. Clean and quiet. Check it out on Campground Reviews.Re: Interstate 55 Memphis Tn.I was just through Memphis in June on I-55 coming from St. Louis. I-55 is just like all Interstates, rough in places due to heavy truck traffic daily. We crossed the Mississippi River using the I-55 bridge in our motor home with no problems other than all the trucks. Just as others have stated, watch the signs and pay attention to the trucks.Re: No StartUpdate: Problem Solved I had to take my coach to an RV repair shop to get the problem resolved. After several hours of searching and testing it was found to be a bad connection behind my engine fuse panel. The RV tech had to completely remove the engine fuse panel to locate and repair a ground wire coming from ignition switch through the firewall to the fuse panel. The wire had a loose connection and once repaired the coach started without issues. I would have never been able to do the work myself do to the difficulty of access.Re: Best RV route mapI use RV Trip Wizard. It is a subscription program but it is very good on mapping routes. You have the ability to drag and change your desired routing as you plan. It lists tons of information for you such as RV Parks, Pilot/Flying J, Restaurants, Rest Areas, etc. There are many options you may choose for your personal needs. It has some flaws but every program does. I have been using RV Trip Wizard for the past three years or so and it is the best trip planning software available for my needs. Safe travels and enjoy the trip!Re: Iowa to Fort Myers, Fl routeThe previous route I suggested to you is mostly four lane highway all the way from Iowa City to Mobile, AL and as another post stated it keeps you from going through Atlanta with tons of construction. Same for Birmingham, AL. I would suggest you stay at Tom Sawyers Mississippi River RV Park in West Memphis, Arkansas if you want to experience a great stop. You are right next to the Mississippi River where you can watch the barges traveling up and down. It is a very different type of Campground. Memphis has some great food to sample.Re: Iowa to Fort Myers, Fl routeHi, Your planned trip sounds like great fun! I noticed you did not state what kind of roads you prefer, how much time you have for the trip or what your interests are. There are several different routes you could take. I have traveled between Orlando, FL and St. Louis several times. I can only assist you for that portion of your trip. I personally prefer the US highways over Interstates when possible. You could go south to Iowa City on I-380, then continue south on US 218 to just north of Keokuk, IA where you pick up US 61 south all the way to Wentzville,Mo then south on I-64 to I- 55. From the St. Louis area you can take I-55 south to Memphis. One of the great stops heading south. Memphis has some of the best barbecue restaurants I have found. If you prefer to by-pass Memphis, you could take I- 155 from Hayti, MO to Dyersburg, TN then US 412 south to Jackson, TN then US 45 south all the way to Mobile, AL. From there east on I-10 to I-75 to Ft. Myers, FL. Google maps shows thw fastest way is south to Hannibal, Mo down US 61 to Wentzville, MO then through St. Louis on I-64 to Mount Vernon, Il on south to I-24 to Chattanooga, TN then south on I-75 to Ft. Myers, FL. Once again, time is the key factor. No StartI have a 2000 R- Vision Condor motor home with a Chevy 454. Up until recently I have been starting the coach while in storage to exercise my engine. Last week I started the engine and ran it for about 20 minutes then I shut down. The engine would not start again. All I get is a clicking sound when I energize the ignition switch. Starter was pulled and bench checked good. New battery was installed. Performed alternator check which was also good. Checked all fuses that I could locate and found nothing. Every time I try an engine start I just get the clicking sound like the starter is not receiving good contact. I am looking for suggestions as to what I might check to resolve my issue. I also removed and replaced both battery cables. Problem appears to be something connected to the starter system. Checked for power at engine fuse box and all is good there. I am looking for suggestions as to what I might check to resolve my issue.
