Because my OEM thermostat did not work properly, I needed to install this unit hanging from the wall without the Mounting Plate. It worked fine using the Heat Pump, but my Furnace which was needed for coming cold weather did not function properly. (It cycled on and off repeatedly). Well, I thought it was the furnace, so I called a repair person and after trouble shooting the furnace and also removing it and bench tested it came to the conclusion that the thermostat was defective. We confirmed this by taking the wires from the T-stat (Red and white) and hot wiring it together. It worked fine. So, it appears that I also received a defective product. As and end note, I will say that I did receive a Mounting plate from the company without any communication, and I was able to obtain another thermostat that when installed is operating at 100%. It cost me $260.00 for the Service call. Bad RV Products Supplier - RV Products Shop Just a note that RV Products Shop in Witchata, KS should not be used for RV Parts. It seems they just carry HVAC items. Here is my story. Last week I found them in the internet using a Coleman Mach thermostat as a search tool. There web site look really good, so I emailed them via their contact method and they got an answer in a few hours. All is good. I ordered the thermostat they suggested ( 1 of the 2) and messaged back that I had done so. The part was shipped the next day via USPS Advantage and arrived 5 days later ($18.00 shipping). Now the kicker......... I opened the T-Stat for installation, and noted that the Mounting Plate that is supposed to come with it was missing. I then messaged him both from the general email and from my account. I noted the problem and asked to please advise. It is now almost 3 days later and have not heard from them. I will note, that the unit they sent me appeared to be slightly used and the manual appeared used also. Due to the cold weather we are having I needed a T-stat that worked, as the one in my RV was failing. I wired it up and although the gauge is 3 degrees off, it does work (Checked with 2 other thermometers). So, it is just hanging from the wall now. I did find their phone number, but they don't answer and say to leave a email communication. Re: oxidizing We have a 2012 Carriage Cameo. We try to wash it every 6 months, min. First I do the roof with Dawn and Murphy Wood Cleaner, the on the sides I use Meguiar's Ultimate Wash and Wax. Then after that I go around the RV and spray all the seals with silicone lubricant(inside and outside seals). Then I check the integrety of the sealer to be sure there are no potential leaks. If you have "chalking" I don't know if you are beyond help, but you can check on line or at a automotive store to see if there is a product that helps with the chalking and also cleans and waxes. Good Luck Re: DMV issues Not all mail services are the same. You need one that is set up as a "Domicile" not just a mail box. We use a UPS store mail service here in NC. Check in your state to see if the UPS store is just for mail or is also a Domicile address. Re: Really Cheap - 12v 100amp-hr Lithium Batteries A year ago I got 2 100 A Lithium batteries from Li Time. Great batteries and service. Check them out, and don't be afraid to call them for recommendations. But be sure your charger in your coach can handle Lithium. Most chargers for DeepCycle can not do lithium unless they are duel rated or auto sensing. I had to change mine. I upgraded to the Progressive Dynamics Lithium/Deep Cycle Charger. Don't be afraid to call them either. Very happy with both purchases. LI batteries are an advertising jungle with prices all over the place. The ones I bought are reasonable and Customer Service was Great. Re: LED Ceiling Lights I have a 2012 Cameo and I have switched most of my lights from Halogen to LED. It is easy. Just be sure you get a compatable bulb. If you search your bulb number and look for LED replacement, you will be okay. We are full timers, so because I pay my own electric bill I changed. I got 6000K white. If your switch is dimmable, be sure the led is. Re: Used rv possibly making us sick Check for mold or mildew. Check closets, storage areas. It might be good idea, although if the RV was used a lot that you might clean out your water lines with a bleach mixture, like you would do in your fresh water tank. Re: Wheel bearing repacking Not sure, but I think about every 2000 mi. or so. If you have Never Lube Axles or axles that have a zirk fitting be careful how much grease you use, as too much can get on your breaks. Be sure to take the pressure off the wheel by jacking the wheels up so you can spin the wheel and get the weight off. Re: So many questions about full time living While I can't guide you on a RV, I will tell you that my wife and I have been living in our 2012 Carriage Cameo full time for many years. It is less expensive than having a brick and motar home, but you still have up keep and repairs. We have been able to make it mostly on S.S. watching our expenses. If you can find a lot that you can purchase and install a pad, electric and have a shed for your things (plus washer/dryer) in the long run it will be less expensive than renting a lot. Be sure to check the laws of what is allowed in your area of choice. We live in NC. By having your own lot, you will also have an investment and you can travel if you wish too. Your are smart by looking for a 4 season unit. Even in hot weather the extra insulation will keep your unit cooler. Good Luck! Re: Bad Window Seal? I had the same problem with one of my windows on my 5er. I used the same stuff I use on the side of the RV (Lexel sealant). However, I later found a pin hole on the edge of my roof where the water was coming in and repaired that with Dicor. No leak any more and a reinforced window. If you are getting a leak at window go from top to sides about 4" down. No need to do the entire frame.
