All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: RETIREMENTWe live in Minnesota 6 months a year and 6 months travel, we've been doing this for the last 18 years. You've got some good information so far and only would like to add that at first we took way to much with us on the road, if we haven't used it on a winters trip we remove it. Tabs for RV's for Minnesota are due in February so we renewal them before we hit the road. We've been able to fill out our taxes while on the road using Turbo Tax. When we were using motor homes we didn't worry to much about weight, but I've found the problems with fiver many times are caused because of to much weight.Re: WiFi Range ExtenderCheck out this site, we called last year and they gave us some great advice. www.TechnoRV.comRe: Purchasing / Upgrade To A Fifth-WheelI'm with the others on getting a one-ton truck. When looking at fivers in addition to the floor plan you like make sure you get a rig that has a good solid frame, suspension system and quality hitch. An air hitch or pin sure will save a lot of wear and tear.Re: How far have you traveled to buy/pickup your rig?We live by the Twin Cities of Minnesota, we bought a Class A in Bismarck, ND and our present fiver we bought in Elkhart, IN. In both cases we stayed in the area a few extra days and tried all the systems. Worked out great for us, in fact we had more problems from a local dealer with one unit we bought.Re: Newbie 5th WheelerTo keep food particles from getting into the gray tank we use screen covers over each drain, keep the odor down.Re: What is your longest term of ownership???1. Winnebago Chieftain gas Class A 3 years (bought new-needed more power) 2. Itasca Horizon pusher Class A 9 month (bought new -real lemon) 3. HR Scepter Class A pusher 4 years (bought used great rig) 4. Cardinal 5th wheel 3 years (bought new didn't hold up) 5. Carriage Cameo 5th wheel 6 years. (bought new best so far)Re: Experiences with Space Craft? We have friends that have had them build a custom fiver. They are one great quality rig, and the company really stands behind their work, but they really are pricy. If you've got the coin, it's a great way to go.Re: A Question of Value Deane wrote: All this is really great folks. Much to consider. Please keep them coming. Dutch, In your experience is the Class A easier to setup-break down than the other Classes? What towing setup are you using. We were told the gear needed to tow a car behind a Class A was very heavy and could be hard for us to move around. Good point about the Class C in having to setup every time you sight see. Deane Now that you can get hydraulic leveling jacks for 5th wheel trailer set up time is about the same for a Class A and fiver. Our first RV was a Class A gas unit and we found it just didn't have the power to pull a car. Our next one was a diesel pusher, no problem at all, but we do travel all over the US and Canada.Re: Slide QuestionAll the RV's we had over the years we had the slides makes some noise but not bad. Suggest you go to another location and try the slides on another rig to compare. We've had to have our slides in the past adjusted, it's not a big deal if that's all it is. The trailer we have now has 3 slides and we use it a lot and I guess we're use to it, but the noise is not much. And so far we've not even had to get them adjusted.Re: A Question of ValueBoth my wife and I are 70+. We've been RVing for a number of years and have had 3 motor homes and are on our second 5th wheel in retirement. First we would suggest buying a good used unit, you will save money and in many cases the bugs are worked out of them. Second we have a good quality 5th wheel now but what we don't like is the one ton truck we need to pull it. Ride is rough, hard to park and use for sightseeing and shopping. We wish we still had our Class A motorhome pusher and were pulling a car. You will lose money, but not as much as with a new rig. It's great life and we do enjoy traveling and the lifestyle of RVing.
