In the early beta test development, I asked users to enter in the email address they wished to send to. I also asked they provide "their" email address and password as the Sent From... Fine as corporate application (where someone paid for app development and used selectively), this method doesn't sit well as a public offering (where pirate developers could then scoop your info and use or sell it). Instead, I ask you to provide who you wish to send completed inspections too. This presents a list of your contacts (one of which is expected to be you - hint: send an email to yourself to be added to your own contacts). You have to long press to actually select from the list ( I do this with most scroll lists to prevent unwanted mis-selecting ). Droid X seems to have only 512 k of RAM. It still should run fine however... All my devices have 1 gig - which makes a big difference with app/list load times. Same OS as my phone I test with. Thanks again. Always most helpful.Re: New Android App - TripInspect RVWow, that's astonishing! I have a Samsung S phone, Nexus 7 and Acer A100 tablet and they all work fine. Phone runs 2.33 android and the tabs run Jelly Bean. My friend has a Samsung G2 and it works well... What OS ver, RAM and storage does it have, if I may ask? I can't imagine what would be wrong since it is a pretty simple app - with regards to graphics and processor load. One never knows until the devices of the world test it... Thanks for your honest response wgriswold. Droid X is newer than my Samsung S (first generation)? I would like to see many different devices try it and see how it reacts with them. This would help greatly. MikeRe: New Android App - TripInspect RVAnyone try the app available on Google Play? If you have, any comments? Thanks Kindly, MikeRe: Best GPS wny_pat wrote: Doesn't anyone read the reviews on GPS review web pages??? Sorry, must be posting in the wrong section. Smart phones (tablets) have blended - overtaken the standard GPS device. When I look today, I can purchase a tab or phone for much less than the latest TomTom... which has 120 times the power of standard GPS systems. GPS systems are constantly connected (hardwired - power and GPS). That's a good thing.Re: Best GPS Kennedycamper wrote: Most new smart phones have a GPS on them. With GPS enabled comes a price... Significantly reduced battery life. Next to the display, GPS will rank high in battery consumption. Fortunately, Android is attempting to address this issue in version 4.4 (KitKat) - reducing power consumption. We shall see how this plays out. The real problem with phones and tablets is: How to keep the device charged? The obvious answer is to plug it in. Until recently, this meant (for vehicle systems) plug in the 12 volt charger to device input port. Now, this could be a barrel connector of various sizes, a mini USB of various proprietary sizes or (on new phones and tablets) remote charging. With new devices ( Nexus 5 (phone), Nexus 7 (tablet) ), place the device near the power source and it will charge without being directly (hard wired) connected. I have been waiting for this for two years since many apps (mine included) require a full time GPS signal... without loss due to battery dead. Hopefully, the cradle mfg's will build this in to their products. Imagine, setting your device on the dash (and removing it from time to time), using it for weeks without ever having to plug it in. Now that's mobile...Re: New Android App - TripInspect RVTripInspect RV released on Google Play. Just in time for... next season. See first post for link ...Re: New Android App - TripInspect RVBeta version 0.60 has just been released to the select testers. With this help, the app is progressing nicely. Summary changes/additions: A new "Start Up" Screen. Guides newcomers through a brief explanation of the app. Home Departure and Personal Checks... as suggested by two of you. Create/Modify Inspections - New "OTHER" option (for quick checks) "Towed Vehicle" added to Trailer Types. Email: No need to setup an account. System uses whichever client you choose that resides on your device. Send To: Presents a list of your contacts to choose from. Select your name and anyone else.Re: New Android App - TripInspect RVTripInspect is ready for beta. TripInspect will be delivered as an attachment to my email. Your Android device will ask if you wish to install it (when email is opened on your device). Please PM me an email address or respond to: ti.tripinspect@gmail.com Thanks MikeRe: New Android App - TripInspect RVOK, for all who generously asked to beta test. ;) I thank you... Please PM me with the following: ( a select few will be chosen for the first week so I don't overwhelm myself - I have a day job (unfortunately) ). All others will follow. Android Device: Make: Model: (if you know) Android Version: (under About in Settings - Version) Tablet or phone: (not always obvious from model) Tow Vehicle: Make: Model: Class: (if MotorHome(small) or MotorCoach(big-generally, the diesel pushers) ) Trailer: Make: Model: Description: (single, dual, tri axle? 5th wheel or ball hitch, utility, etc) (most of you do describe this in your tag but this is easier for me - thanks) Vacation Dates: Will you use the app NOW (during test phase) or some other date? Or are you retired and travelling all summer? Also, I wish to include my email address for completed inspections. It will show as an address in the "Send To" of email setup section and warn you if you wish to remove it. This will help me "see" how the app is used and if/when errors arise. You can remove it when testing is complete (I shall anyways). Test and mock up anything you like (beat it up!). That's what testing is all about - try and BREAK it. But of course this is confidential... With all bugs reports (very few I hope - ha, ha), you shall PM me (so as not to clutter this post). With all of your help, this app shall become truly useful. Thank you everyone for your interest and support. I see a very diverse group so far. PS: You will need a PDF viewer app on your device to "view" the completed inspection (on your device - if you care to). My app will ask Android to use one - if it has it - and launch it by default (or ask which one to use if more than one viewer exists) . If you are not sure, download a PDF - or send yourself one (by email) and try to open it. This will test if your device has a viewer. If not, get one from the "Market" (or Google Play or what ever they call it this week). ThanksRe: New Android App - TripInspect RVI have attached to the first post an example of the Completed PDF Inspection Document produced each time an inspection is saved. Inspection details shown are also just "examples".... but you get the idea... The three pages indicate the "Audit Trail" of proper inspections: Page 1: A Clean Inspection - No Defects Found (like it should be...) Note the format of the page. Inspection details will wrap to three columns as required. You have the option to print this copy and have the repair person sign it (if you like paper copies). Page 2: Indicates a Minor Defect. During your (thorough) inspection, you noticed the trailer harness plug socket was damaged and needs replacement. No problem - a bit of wire held it in place until you reached the auto parts store where you purchased a new one... Page 3: You replaced the socket at your new campsite (handy man that you are) but now noticed that the right rear is flat. Obviously - you can't tow this unit until the tire is fixed. Major Defect - Unit Placed OUT OF SERVICE until tire is fixed. The expected process is that YOU noted it (recorded as MAJOR defect), YOU fixed it and recorded another inspection to indicate it was resolved... Any of you Big Rig Truckers out there will recognize the form. Thanks Mike
