We have been looking for a TH to live in as well. I like heartland products, we have not owned one yet. We have decided to pass on the cy 4200 because I am not sure I would like the arrangement of the kitchen cupboards. Not too much space there and they are really high. But I hate to pass on the side patio! I do believe the arctic pkg is worth having. Most models that have the arctic pkg have heated and enclosed underbellies so you don't freeze as easily. We have a four seasons now and have not froze yet. We do not live in ours full time now though. We did spend one night traveling through Brothers Oregon with blowing snow and we did not freeze. I am sure Alaska may challenge this though! If you search for full time r.v.ing you can find an abundant amount of information on this subject from people who have done it and are willing to share information on tips and tricks they have found to work. There are some blogs with really good info. Google this as well. We have looked at a lot of different manufacturers and a lot of floor plans. It really pays to spend some time looking. You can tell a cheaper made model from a better made model pretty quickly. They may all have some faults and you may have to have some work done on your unit, unfortunately that is the world we live in. Some people I have read even park the camper in the driveway for a weekend and live in it just to find those issues. Great idea! We search on line for floor plans we like then go look at the dealer ships. R.V. shows are fantastic! So many companies so many units. We only have small ones around here. Would love to go to a big one! After looking at different units we have our list of must haves and that discounts a lot of units. We have a toy hauler and are not happy with the slides on ours. We are very attentive to this feature now. We bought a toy hauler from a company that is no longer in business so no worries for you buying one, unless you buy used I guess! Lots of good information on owners forums too! Good luck and enjoy your new lifestyle!Re: Preparing to hit the roadI would have all bills emailed and cancel the paper bill if you have not already. :)Re: toy haulers and horsesOur toy hauler has a sliding glass door that separates garage and living area. I do not notice any odors from toys when the door is closed and toys are in garage, however I would wonder if your horses would be as odor friendly rather in or not. Do you think there will be enough ventilation for the horses while traveling? I do not know anything about the requirements of horses while traveling, just wondering! Also, for me anyway, I would consider if hauling horses in a toy hauler would have a negative effect on resale of the r.v.?Re: Fat people and tablesWe have a th that had 2 couches and no dinette. There is a table for one of the couches with the removable legs and the mounts that are in the floor of the r.v. We did not like the distance from table to couch so we removed the floor mounts and the table mounts that held the legs in place to the table and replaced it with a set of legs on each end of the table that fold up. We can store this table away when we don't use it as it is a fairly narrow table. Nowhere near as wide as a regular dinette table. We got the idea from seeing the legs on a table in a different trailer. We do have an island that we bought barstools to use at the counter for our table. After sometime in our th we missed having a table and chairs. We found a table and chairs at Fred Meyer that has small drop leafs on each side that were removable and therefore made it about the width of table we have seen in other trailers. We moved one couch to the garage of th and put the table and 4 chairs in its place. We love it and it was cheaper than what we had found for sale in R.V. stores. We did measure to make sure all would fit in the space we had to work with. We have not secured the table to the floor in any way and so far is riding great. Not too much room to wiggle around while driving as it is in the slide.Re: Toy Hauler for Kids....We have a Vortex toyhauler that does not have ducted heat to the garage. We installed a catalytic heater that runs right off our propane tanks on the th. We did the portable heaters for awhile, but if your not at a campground with full hook ups your running the generator a lot for the heaters. It seems to work really well, we have just tried it out in the driveway though. We do not have small children with us all the time though. Our daughter that sleeps back there regularly is grown. We do have the grandkids with us sometimes. Hopefully touching the heater will not be too hard to keep them from doing. Good luck! Enjoy!Re: Suggest Coffee MakerI found this coffee maker at Shopko. It stores in my cupboard great, doesn't take much counter space and I am the only coffee drinker so it works well for 1 or 2 cups! I can use it for hot water for other drinks as well. Bella is the brand and they make a blender as well that I like for my TH. Re: Haz the Whaz ruined trip reports?Don't leave! I love reading your trip reports as well as seeing the pics! I agree, you do have a way! Stay here for the rest of us! All the best to you and your family, sorry for the trouble with the grandbaby. What a blessing they are!Re: Slides and Stabilizer JacksThe owners manual for our fifth wheel TH recommends you bring the slides in for storage.Re: Buying first RV for TALL familyI would definitely check out toy haulers. We have one and love it. Lots of room and the "garage" beds are nice! Ours has a sliding glass door between garage and living room and set up to put a t.v. in there as well. Some newer ones will come with that already in. Our bedroom ceiling would be too low for you though. We have a friend who is quite tall, he owns a Fuzion and is very happy. I am not sure what the bedroom ceiling is like in that one. Something to watch for I guess. We have a MVP Vortex toyhauler. This company is no longer in business so check that out as well when you are buying used. You will not be able to get parts from a company that is no longer in business. It has not affected us at all yet. Mostly I would guess that would affect something like matching the interior colors etc. We bought our th brand new. I think you are smart for looking at used. You will save a ton of money!!Re: Out west trip questionsIf you are heading to Mount Rushmore will you also stop by the crazy horse monument? It is close by and looks like it would be worth your time. I was at Mount Rushmore in March of last year and did not go to see crazy horse. I wish I would have. The weather that day was not the best cold, windy, rainy. That does not mean every day would be like that in March though! There is a walking tour I would like to go back and take, it was not offered at the time I was there. The viewing platform is quite a ways away. Oh, you can see it all just fine! I just liked the looks of the walking tour. I was travelling for work, so was in a car and I do not know what any of the campgrounds etc. were like. Sorry! Take your camera, it is an awesome sight!!
