That will avoid any possible damage to the car.Re: 1983 Chevy C/K Pickup Trucks- VideoJeremiah, Thanks for posting that great video. When you get that K-30 please post photos. They are great trucks. I have a '78 GMC Sierra Classic C-35 one ton SRW regular cab truck that I love dearly. Runs and drives like new with the 454/TH400 and 4.10 rear gear. Mine is the California version with 250 horsepower and 395 ft. lbs. of torque. Catalyst exempt due to it's 9,000 GVW rating. Tows my car hauler with car (around 6,500 ish pounds) like it is not even back there. Does 65 up any hill without a struggle. Seems to tow every bit as well as my 2004 V-10 SD 4x4 in my signature. Both get about the same mileage when towing the same load, but the Ford gets 1 or 2 mpg better highway fuel mileage when empty and not towing. GMC does have a 700 lb. lighter curb weight than my F-250 though.Re: 5th wheel for Tundra nal13 wrote: silverfz wrote: Saw a massive 5 wheel being towed yesterday on I95 in southern mass by a tundra. It looked scary. My wife was the one to notice and said that does not look safe. It probably wasn't larger than the space shuttle!!! :D Many folks may not be aware, but the Shuttle was never moved by the Tundra. The dollies underneath the Shuttle are self-propelled units. The truck in front, be it a big rig, tundra, kid on a bicycle etc., does nothing but steer the tow bar, and the dollies follow the tow bar for directional input. Any load that's over 100,000 pounds needing to be moved on any road will use two semis, one pulling, and one pushing. The Shuttle by itself weighs 400,000 pounds.Re: Looking for adviceThe listed brochure weight of 8300 will be a myth. What is the GVW of the trailer and the payload rating on the door sticker of the truck? True empty weight of trailer is probably in the 9,000 lb. range. That trailer length will have a huge leverage effect on that softly suspended 1/2 ton truck, even at the slightest hint of a crosswind.Re: gear ratiosI am around 2,800 rpm at 65 in my '78 GMC one ton SRW standard cab pickup with a 4.10 rear. Right in the power band, and it does great. Use it to pull a car hauler with a car, GVW of trailer is 7,000. Not much wind drag like you will have with a travel trailer though. Mine is stock 454/TH400 combo., 250 horsepower and 395 ft. lbs. torque, factory dual exhaust and catalyst exempt due to it's 9,000 GVW rating. Honestly, I think you would be fine with either gear, or split the difference and go with a 3.73. Before I got the new tires for the GMC, I used a friend's F-350 to move a car here from out of town. His truck is a 1996 crew cab long bed SRW with 460 and 3.54 gears. His truck did the job well, but was noticeably slower to accelerate than mine carrying the same load. In it's defense, the F-350 is heavier than mine due to being a crew cab, but the difference is very noticeable.Re: Record high price for used 2018 Ram 2500?Corrected my posting. Truck is a SRW 3500, not 2500.Record high price for used 2018 Ram 2500?Saw a used 2018 Ram 3500 4x4 mega cab Cummins/Aisin Big Horn for sale, unknown mileage. Guy has had it since the first part of November, and the price is $76,000. :ORe: What a average age/mileage of your Tow Vehicle? My 2004 F-250 SD 4x4 V-10 has 220,000 miles, and my '78 GMC one ton SRW pickup 454/TH400 has 42,000 miles. Both run and perform great, and no troubles with either of them.Re: Tread squirm is for real!At work I sometimes drive a 2015 Silverado 2500HD Government truck. The original tires were Firestone Transforce, which were great, and very stable while towing. New tires were put on it in December, Iron Man All Country. These new tires are very squirmy. Like the roadway is covered in BBs or marbles. My own '78 GMC one ton SRW pickup has Transforce tires as well, and are very stable towing and unloaded. Same with the BFG T/A KO's on my 2004 F-250 SD. I will never buy Iron Man tires for any of my own vehicles after experiencing them on the Government Silverado.
