I think that may help in the future!Re: Coleman Mach AC unit control box fried/2014 Itasca ElipseWe have a Power Line EMS and it shows "line status" and shows Line #1 and line #2 and the total for both lines in AMPs...........we are not at the same RV park right now, because we had to leave to come get it fixed......but right now where we are it shows line #1 118 volts and 14 AMPs and line #2 is 121volts and 4 AMPS. The breakers never did trip and we smelled burning wires for sure when they quit working. So the the wire nut connections is certainly possible........which is still odd that 2 would burn up at the same time (2 hours apart) So if we didn't have good 50 amp service, which I suspect at this particular RV park and we had low voltage, would that burn them up? Is there such a thing as a inline volt meter to plug into the box and then we plug into that........or how do I check what we have before we plug in? It concerns me that if this had happened when we were gone and the dogs alone in the RV we could have had a problem with them and the heat or even worse a fire........we do use a baby monitor, but if I were out of cell range, we would never know.Coleman Mach AC unit control box fried/2014 Itasca ElipseWe have a 2014 Itasca Elipse and last night we burned up 2 control boxes on 2 of our 3 AC units. We were plugged into a 50amp plug, running the AC (all three were on, it was 90 degrees) and doing laundry (running both the washer and dryer). I was under the impression that on our rig, the ACs would shut down their compressors if we were pulling too many AMPs. The AC units just shut down, one then another and there was a smell like electrical wires burning (which obviously was the boxes burning up). I should note that before when we weren't actually pulling in 50AMPs for a 50AMP plug in, all of our AC units wouldn't turn on. But if we turn on the generator, they would all work. So we assumed we weren't actually getting 50AMPs from that plug. 1) Why did this happen, that they burned up rather than just shut the compressors off? 2) Would surge protector or something like that, at the plug in help? (we supposedly have that hard wired in our RV, but not sure how well it actually works) 3) Any suggestions that might prevent this from happening again? I should also note that 2 yrs ago, we had to replace our zone 1 AC and this time it's Zone 1 and 2 that fried.Re: Jeep battery dead after towingI will check for a fuse, I"m not sure about that. We have the battery disconnect to on the negative, but since it only happens when we are towing and it happened before and after the disconnect being put on, I suspect it must be in the wiring harness. I think I have the old harness from a previous MH and Jeep, so I may try to see if that will work and cause the same problem. If it does, then I think the problem must be in the motorhome part.......of course this plan only works if the old harness fits! So, a short somewhere could cause the battery to drain in 5 or 6 hours, even if we have the battery disconnected (the negative side)? Is that correct?Re: Jeep battery dead after towingWe installed the battery disconnect after the first dead battery and then today, it's dead again. It is all lights that are out on the passenger side of the Jeep, the RV lights are fine and they work fine when we aren't hooked up. Would having a poor connection in the plug cause the battery to drain? I'll give it a shot, but I can see that it might be the cause of the light not working, but not sure about draining the battery.......that's my quandary!Re: Jeep battery dead after towingThe normal position we always have. We do have a steering wheel lock on ours. That's the odd thing, we haven't done anything differently. We have had the same rig and same systems since 2014. I am wondering if there is some sort of short that is draining the battery. I just don't know!Jeep battery dead after towingThis topic has been moved to another forum. You can read it here: 29315497Jeep battery dead after towingWe flat tow our 2014 Jeep Wrangler and have for years. The last two times we towed, we couldn't start the Jeep without a jump. After the first time I took it to the Jeep dealer and had the battery, alternator, etc. checked and everything was fine. After the first jump, we had no problems at all until we just towed again today and now we have the same issue. The only thing that I an say is different is that one tail light is out when we tow, it is on in normal operation, just out when towing. We have changed nothing else, except to add a battery disconnect after the last time (5 days ago) We towed from FL to NC with multiple stops, no issues, then it happened and now it did it again. We use a M & G braking system, have had it for years and it works off the airbrakes, so no power going there. So we only have the wiring harness beyond that. Any ideas? I don't even know where to start on this one!
