Coleman Mach AC unit control box fried/2014 Itasca Elipse
We have a 2014 Itasca Elipse and last night we burned up 2 control boxes on 2 of our 3 AC units. We were plugged into a 50amp plug, running the AC (all three were on, it was 90 degrees) and doing laundry (running both the washer and dryer). I was under the impression that on our rig, the ACs would shut down their compressors if we were pulling too many AMPs. The AC units just shut down, one then another and there was a smell like electrical wires burning (which obviously was the boxes burning up).
I should note that before when we weren't actually pulling in 50AMPs for a 50AMP plug in, all of our AC units wouldn't turn on. But if we turn on the generator, they would all work. So we assumed we weren't actually getting 50AMPs from that plug.
1) Why did this happen, that they burned up rather than just shut the compressors off?
2) Would surge protector or something like that, at the plug in help? (we supposedly have that hard wired in our RV, but not sure how well it actually works)
3) Any suggestions that might prevent this from happening again?
I should also note that 2 yrs ago, we had to replace our zone 1 AC and this time it's Zone 1 and 2 that fried.
