You can read it here: 29715788Dolley Trailer or Four Down?I have a 2003 Winnebago Sightseer. I recently towed a 2014 Grand Caravan (G.W. 9,000 lbs.) on a dolley trailer. It really struggled; especially the transmission. I drove it for about an hour and then took it off. Does anyone think that installing a hitch and going four down will make a difference? Thank you.Re: Breakdown OptionsThanks for all the feedback. I'm going to have it towed to my home in Maine. I found a reasonable service that will trailer it to me. I think it will be best if I find someone locally to give me a second opinion. This is what the service invoice stated: C/S that the engine was running hot. The temp started to go down when the engine started knocking. As he tried to get off the highway the engine started to lose power. Oil level is good and looks and smells as though it is in good condition. Drained a small amount of oil off bottom of oil pan found no issues. Normal wear metal. Engine bars over. No coolant in radiator. Pressure test cooling system and found pipe with hole in front of LR tire. Charged batteries and started unit. Started right up and sounded ok. Started working on repairing cooling leak. Tried to patch the damaged area and in doing so caused another leak less than 1 foot from original area. Need to replace coolant hoses from front of unit to rear. Removed one failed pipe and started installing new hose. Installed new hoses from engine to rear of unit. Pressure tested cooling system and found no leaks. Drove around yard and found under half throttle engine pops through the intake. Possible burnt valve, blown head gasket, or cracked cylinder head. I hate the thought of paying for something that I can't use.Breakdown OptionsLooking for some opinions on what to do with my broken down Winnebago Sightseer. I live in Maine and was heading out west through Vermont when the RV lost all it's coolant, the motor overheated, and experienced internal engine damage. I had it towed to a place where they can fix it, but they want to replace the engine (GM 8100) at a cost of $21,000 (includes pats and labor). I bought the RV used and have less than that in it. This was my first trip with the recently purchased RV. First the garage tested the engine to see if it would turn over. It did. They also drained the oil out and found no signs of metal or water. The garage then found the coolant leak and repaired it. It was the lines that go back to the water heater (rusted out). Once they repaired the leaks they repressured the system and took it out for a test drive. The engine wouldn't even get to half throttle. The garage then determined internal damage had occured. The RV is now at the shop 450 miles from home. What are some opinions on what I should do. Put the engine in and pay the bill, tow it home and get it rebuilt, junk it, trade it in towards another RV, or something else? The RV is not in overall great shape, but good. Any thoughts and opinions are welcome. Thanks.
