All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: cleaning the outside of the 5'erI put a heroic effort last year with a cutting compound then wax, and although it didn't look like new, it looked pretty good. The next year it was almost back to the way it was before my big effort, so I give up. Does it bug me? Yes. But no way I'm putting that much work into the exterior every year.Re: charleston, SCI've camped at both James Island and Oak Plantation - access to Charleston is far faster from James Island. Oak Plantation was nice enough, but the distance tips the scales for me.Re: Gel coat crackingThis area is the corner of the bedroom slide, which is what you see in the picture. Sure, it's easy to get to the inside and I can say there is nothing adverse to report. I suspect if the outer layers were pealed back, you'd see minor water intrusion. I guess the thing to do is a procedure similar to removing skin cancer - start cutting until all the bad has been removed, then start re-building. My question is rebuilding the fiberglass portion.Gel coat crackingI've noticed this crack just over a year ago, and probably should've dealt with it earlier, but it's grown since to about 3.5". I now keep it covered with blue tape which seals it nicely, but I believe it keep growing and the surface is slightly raised, so I assume some moisture has penetrated. I'm hoping someone can tell me a way to resolve this problem, and I'm probably not as concerned with post-repair looks as others might be. What should I do? Noisy rear electric stabilizer jacksI have Lippert electric rear stabilizer jacks, and lately they've been making such terrible, loud squeaking noises when I operate them. So much so, I feel I'm attracting unwanted attention. I've lubricated the rotating drive shaft as well as hinged areas, but can't seem to eliminate the noise source. I also think they aren't operating as smoothly as when new. Any ideas how to solve this irritating issue?Refrigerator temp adjust? How in the world does sliding this piece of plastic either up or down one of these cooling fins actually control the temperature inside the refrigerator? Re: LED strip lighting with automatic door switchLED lighting strips can be purchased from a variety of places, mostly online. I install under-cabinet lighting for a living, so I get the scraps left over from my jobs, but I purchase mine online from Home Depot because it has a higher lumen rating, plus it's easy to solder. The important thing is to make sure it's 12 VDC and not 24 VDC. You can find all kinds of LED strip lighting online in ways that are certain to confuse most of us.LED strip lighting with automatic door switchIt hit me one day that since the LED lighting operates with 12 VDC, adding a simple micro-switch to the door would eliminate the need for a wall switch. So I picked up the micro-switches from Radio Shack for $3.49/each and tapped an always nearby 12 VDC source, and now I have lights that turn on/off as the door opens/closes. If you look closely, you can see the switches mounted at the top side, with all wiring tucked neatly away never to be seen. Re: Dump valve replacement gone badThanks for all the replies, which is much appreciated. As a result of the suggestions, I've determined that I can cut a 3" pipe that tees into the main outlet on the opposite side. It will be about 2' of loose pipe to handle, but at least I know it'll work. Thanks again for all who chimed in.Re: Dump valve replacement gone badAll that gunk is Plasti-melt which was supposed to fix a hairline crack in that area that was leaking. What you're seeing is about 8 coats of it, which by the way, did not fix the leak. I used some epoxy over the Plasti-melt that ultimately fixed the leak.
