I am visiting Roselyn, Wa, for a couple of days, home to the fictitious Cecily, Alaska, in the TV show "Northern Exposure" from about 1991. Then it's straight east to Minnesota. The End (of the trip) Is Near!Re: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......I'm in Merritt BC today. Stayed at N'Kwala State Recreational Site just west of Merritt on Hwy 8 the last 2 nights. Pretty nice and it was free. No services except for vault toilets. The night sky with all the stars has been amazing the last few nights. I will return to the continental US today. Sorry to have most of the trip behind me.Re: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......I thought the Cassiar Hwy was fine. 45-50 mph the north 100 miles then 50-55 for the rest of the Hwy. All paved. I spent one night at Boya Lake PP and 2 nights in Stewart. The Salmon Glacier is spectacular. I'm in Prince George tonight. Weather is very nice. Heading south down 97 tomorrow.Re: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......sue.t --I drove to Haines Hwy today after 4 days of boondocking. Luckily there was no snow on the route today. The Kathleen Lake CG in Kluane NP is closing on Tuesday, 9/2. Very nice CG. I expect that we will start to see more of that. I'm at the Haines Hook Up Rv Park. What a nice place. Very clean laundry and showers. A few dollars more but after 4 days in the woods, it was worth it to me. I probably will be here 3 days. I want to get some hiking in. The road from the Alaska boarder to Destruction Bay was quite the ride. I'll take the Cassiar Hwy home now that I have all of the good information provided above.Re: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......george1011, I leave Anchorage Tuesday morning and will head up the Glenn Hwy and the Tok cutoff. I plan to visit Haines before I head to the Cassiar. When do you expect to start down the Cassiar? Who ever does it first will have to leave posts for the other on the conditions/gas. Maybe see you out there. gusRe: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......fanrgs, thanks for the post. I was uncertain which way to head back also. I hate to take the same route both ways. Your post gave me some comfort that the Cassiar will be no more difficult than any other driving that I have done. Also, it is good to know that there will be gas stations open along the way. Thanks for the information. ps. how do you get that logo on the left side of the page to show that you are a Good Sam member?Re: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......We are in Homer and it hasn't stopped raining for 2 days. Next to Seward for a couple of days and then back to Anchorage to take my wife to the airport. Then I start camping my way home. I also plan on taking the Cassiar Hwy home. So there will still be a few posts on this site. I also want to join the others in thanking Janet for putting these two forums together. They provided a lot of good reading and information. I do have quite a few cans of mosquito repellant available. By the time I got to Alaska the mosquitoes were no longer a problem. Oh, well. I can always use the stuff back in Minnesota. There are always plenty of mosquitoes there every summer.Re: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......sue.t --thanks for the elk pictures. I enjoyed those. Of course, the hot springs picture also!Re: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......fanrgs-i'm in Fairbanks tonight at River's Edge. I just came from Dawson City-Chicken-Tok. The American side from Chicken to the border is pretty tough, 30-35 mph. It gets especially bad as you approach the border. That part is under construction. The 65 miles from the border to Dawson is not too bad,40-45 mph. It's gravel but wider and well maintained. I had a very good grilled chicken at the Chicken Café in Chicken, of course. It looks kind of funky outside but the food was very good. And fresh baked desserts! Have a great trip.Re: On the Road with "Roll Call Alaska 2013"......lizzie, I am also in Dawson Creek at Mile "O" CG site 65. I will be heading west in the morning. The drive east from Dawson Creek to about 20 miles west of Grand Prairie is slow going--road construction with long stretches of single lane traffic. However once you get to Grand Prairie and head south on Hwy 40 the driving is good with only light traffic all the way to Hinton. Very nice drive. I just came that way today. glaciergus
