We opted using vehicle to get to beach..usually plenty of parking at Gulf State Public Pavilion, also nice restrooms, and changing area if needed. I got on the Google satellite view and saw the pavilion location and all the parking. That sounds like the plan. As I recall, from our campsite to the beach, it was a drive via auto. We tried the beach, but couldn't get in the water. There was a jelly fish outbreak and they were not letting anyone in the water. So we went back to the camper. On the one side of the park was a lake. It had a brown-red color in the water. Quite beautiful. It was fresh water with a hint of salt. We all decided to just go swimming there. This was August and the weather was like 110 degrees, we were in a pop-up with no air conditioner. We had a great time splashing and playing in the water. So refreshing, so wonderful. Next day we were at the gate house and the lady asked us if we'd seen the alligators? Um? Alligators? She said yes. Up the road, around a curve was a culvert and a family of alligators lived there. She said the alligators swim the small channels connecting all the little fresh water lakes here and swim from lake to lake. She said, whatever you do, don't go into any of the lakes around the campground. You never know when an alligator will be in the water and you won't see it till it too late. Um.... OK! (swallow, swallow, swallow) .... Thank-you! Yikes! That's scary! I remember when we first started camping at Topsail in Destin they had a small alligator that was in the small lake within the campground. Apparently people were feeding it because it would swim right up to you at the edge of the water.Gulf State Park and Going To The BeachWe usually go to Topsail Hill SP in Destin and can choose between a tram or riding bicycles to get to the beach. The beach is around 3/4 of a mile from the campground. We are going to Gulf State Park for the first time next month and wanted to know how others go to the beach. Didn't know if people rode their bikes or drove and parked somewhere. Looking forward to going. Looks like a nice CG. Just wanted to give others a "heads up". Some are even several feet behind the tires. They do hang down pretty far. At least I know now to keep a better eye on them.Re: Bent 6 Point Level Jack djousma wrote: Fulltimer50 wrote: The jacks on my rig are set at a 5* angle by design. Unless yours is bent more than that, I would not worry about it. Mine are two, but outwards, for stability I presume. I expect that the OP's is bent forwards from backing into something. OP also doesn't say what part is bent. Since it was most likely fully retracted, the piston probably isn't bent. Could you possibly just loosen the bolts that attach it to the frame, and just see if it moved vs actually got bent? Yes, it is bent forward toward the rear tire from backing into the edge of our driveway. Piston comes out just fine. The black tube is welded to the bracket with two plates and it's the plates that bent. I'll probably just replace it myself. It's a $434 part.Bent 6 Point Level JackGot home from our 5th time to use our new RV, and while backing it in our driveway I hit up against the edge of the driveway and bent the rear level system jack in toward the tire a bit. Grrrrr! Tried to use a come along tool which helped a little, but it's still not straight. I tried to level the RV and it worked, but the jack is still at a bit of an angle. Any ideas on how to straighten it out? Someone said to apply a torch and use a come along to straighten it. I saw a new jack on e-trailer for around $413. Expensive mistake!Re: How many pounds in your air bags?I'm interested in this too b/c I am about to install a set of the Firestone air bags on my truck.Re: Bubbled up roofs on the hwyWe were on our way to Florida in July and someone in a travel trailer came along beside me and rolled their window down. I had that sinking feeling something was wrong and rolled my window down. They yelled over the road noise that my roof was raising up. I said ok and thanked them. We angled our side mirrors up to try to see the roof and sure enough we could see the front part of our rubber roof billowing up. I made it to our campground and took a look. It didn't tear (luckily), but I could see where it had pulled out from underneath the front strip a bit. On the way back home, I used rope and lashed it down to prevent it from ballooning. Made it home fine. Now I have to fix it.
