Not liking the crowded campgrounds where folks are jammed in about a yard or two apart. Not liking the barking dogs, screaming drunk adults, or the loud music past midnight. Spending time now in the North Maine Woods where you can drive all day and only see deer or a dozen moose or more. So few people around you feel like no other human is on the planet. Sit around the campfire at night and hear the owls 'talking' to one another while enjoying the beautiful night sky filled with thousands of twinkling stars. Season pass is reasonable, so no campground fees or people on golf carts zooming by. Best of all is that there are no camper flood lights shinning all night because the owner of the camper is afraid of the dark. A good book is helpful during the down times when fishing is not an option. Peace and quiet enough so that there is plenty of time to ponder on things of personal interest. Safe camping. If someone doesn't want you around, family, friend, or stranger, pack up and leave for far off places of your choice. Treat others as you wish to be treated. If others treat you differently, move on. Toilet WILL allow odor to escape when a fan is running plain and simple. Sounds simple enough. Remember, the 'grey' water tank can smell as bad or worse than the black water tank. You may be doing everything fine to vent the black tank and flush it properly, but forgetting the grey water tank could be problematic as far as smells go. Good luck & keep us posted. If you think most people agree with you, feel free to get the rules changed. Are you trying to be insulting or is it just my interpretation? My point was that not all civilized behavior toward each other necessarily requires rules. Rules are generally created when people start acting in ways that abuse the trust that was given. Obviously BLM and FS dispersed camping rules don't mean you can use recreation lands that belong to all of us to store your stuff and hog the best spots that others could be using. I feel your pain jimh425. Somewhere along the road, some people lost, in their upbringing, the difference between 'right' and 'wrong', or treating others as you wish to be treated. Simple lessons, but too easily forgotten or never taught. Leaving RVs at campsites on off days happens in the great North Woods of Maine, too. Have seen this action many times while camping in this beautiful state. During moose season hunting, it is almost impossible to find a spot that is unoccupied because many people set up their rigs many days before their scheduled hunts. I just keep my mouth shut and move on to another less desirable location. Kindness within human nature appears to headed south. LakesideRe: Slide failures?A year and a half after purchase and after a wonderful trip to Alaska, our Palomino TC developed a slide problem. One side would work fine, while the other side allowed the motor to 'ratchet' and slip on the track. The slide would not close evenly and eventually would not close at all. I had to muscle it into closed position while DW hit the slide retract switch. Back to dealer and 10 days later, fixed. They removed the slide and discovered the hole that was made for the slide at the manufacture was out of square and binding on one corner because the hole had been cut incorrectly by 2.5" too small. The corner that was binding bent the slide motor track and broke the gears off the motor. I was OUT of warranty, but paid nothing. My dealer convinced Forest River that they had made an error at the manufacturer's plant. This dealer went above and beyond to help me and to cover the costs. Truly amazing in this day and age. I will not mention the dealer in this post, but if anyone is interested, PM me and I will give you the dealer's name. Great place to do business at. I would not hesitated to complete repete business at this dealership. I do NOT work for or have any other affiliation with this dealer other than being a retail customer. Also, would they both have to self quarantine for 14 days after they got back? Beats me. For all practical purposes, if all parties reported to their respective agencies that should satisfy reporting requirements as long as their vessel was available for further inspection if that was required by U.S. CBP or Canadian CBSA. As far as the 14 day quarantine, I have no idea. Not a Federal requirement. Seems lately these orders / requirements are issued by state or city authorities. Good discussion. Lakeside I am not trying to be P.I.A...but, you are talking US. In Canada? The quarantine law is indeed a Federal Law. And willingly enforced. Gary Haupt Roger that, thanks Gary. He couldn't drive a mile from the border to the marina but he could fly from Vancouver to Seattle then charter a San Juan airlines float plane to take him there. BTW. I have had NEXUS for years and used to own a light aircraft which I used to take to the US quite often. I am quite familiar with customs procedures at ports of entry. Sorry, not about you. I was making general comment about contact with foreign vessels on the open waters. No offense intended toward your post. Pleasure boats are no more exempt than vehicle traffic. Illegal? How? I think you missed the part where I said the Point Roberts Marina is a Port of Entry, aka a legal border crossing. As with so many things, border agents have an incredibly broad amount of discretion and a different agent is often a very different answer. Of course the other simple solution is merely to have someone else bring the boat out off the marina and swap operators on the water. They would dampen the flex, but still allow movement. Someone out here in the fire camp actually had that as a suggestion too, I just don't have any tire tubes. The other suggestion was a cheap twin air mattress from Walmart in between the cab and the camper. Although I'm still 81 miles from a Walmart :-) I might be able to buy one at the local Dollar store. Bicycle tire tubes may help you. Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Lakeside
