Dicor CorporationRe: Which Dicor Lap Sealant? The 501LSW or 502LSW will work very well. It will seal the existing seal’s voids. If the existing seal has pulled away from the roof and can be removed easily, remove it. If not, use the Dicor self leveling lap sealant just to fill in any surface cracks or voids. Let the self leveling properties take over and seal the existing seal. No need to coat the entire seal – just the voids. Prior to re-sealing, wipe the area with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol. The rubbing alcohol will dry any moisture and clean the surface. Hope this helps! Good luck with the re-sealing! Safe and happy travels! Dicor CorporationRe: Roof screw holes repaired by Dicor???Lap seal repairs are typical and will work for small areas. It is something that should be checked periodically – so would a patch. To make it even more secure, you could use the Di-Seal patch tape over the lap seal repair - but this is not usually necessary. Hope this helps! Safe and Happy Travels! DicorRe: Butyl Tape vs Dicor Self LevelingWe suggest they use the butyl tape between the flange for the vent and the roof. Screw the vent down, and run a ¼” to 3/8” bead around the vent. The butyl take is the primary seal, the lap sealant is the secondary seal – extra protection. Over a period of time, the butyl tape may compress unevenly (through vibration or weathering). The lap sealant will remain pliable and keep the seal. Hope this helps! Safe and happy travels! DicorRe: Dicor roof sealant - remove or caulk on top of?Hi Baja Man! Sounds like you have the right idea! However, make sure that you do not put the Dicor Lap Sealant under the new skylight. Instead, put butyl tape between the skylight and the roof. Use Dicor Di-Seal over the edges of the panels that are for repair. Wipe existing seal with a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol and then re-caulk any voids or cracks – it is not necessary to remove the old seal if it is stuck to the roof. Hope this is helpful! Feel free to contact Dicor with any questions that you might have! 574-264-2699 Safe and Happy Travels! DicorRe: Dicor sealant questionThe 125 sq. ft. per gallon does not take into consideration the vents, skylights, air conditioners, etc. that won’t be coated. The sq. footage is an estimate and is usually more than enough. We want the customer to have more than enough to finish the job – not be in the middle of the job and discover there isn’t enough to finish. Our instructions say the job must be done in the same day. In some circumstances (weather & humidity), it may be necessary to finish the second coat the next day. It is very important that at least the first coat be applied within 5 hours of washing the Activator/Cleaner off. There is no real benefit to doing a third coat. Touch up is possible later but doing a large section or re-coating the entire roof should involve using the Activator/Cleaner again and starting new. I hope this answers your question! Feel free to call Dicor at 574-264-2699 if you need further assistance! Safe and happy travels! Dicor CorporationRe: Dicor questionHello, Path1 -- The Dicor lap sealant (whether non-sag or self leveling) will collect dirt if not washed regularly. It is butyl rubber based and could have a tendency for dirt to stick to it. Again, the key is regular cleaning. Hopefully this answers your question! Safe and Happy Travels! Dicor CorporationRe: Metal Roof Dicor/311 sealentHi Biggyniner, Since your unit originally had a silicone based sealant, you will want to use that same sealant. The Dicor lap sealant will not be effective in this circumstance because it will not stick to silicone, and you will likely have some silicone residue left on your roof. Hope this answer is helpful and good luck with your repairs. If you have any further questions, feel free to call Dicor at 574-264-2699. Safe and Happy Travels!Re: Rooftop AC unit install - Dicor around gasket?Hello mkirsch! Thank you for your question. It is important that you do not use a bead of Dicor Ultra Sealant around the base of the gasket. This will deteriorate the foam gasket, as Newman Fulltimer pointed out. If you have any further questions, please feel free to give Dicor a call at 574-264-2699. Safe and happy travels!
