Your experience is virtually identicle to the death of my CPE inverter. I am starting to wonder if there are not more corrective changes being made to the upgrade module than just an increase to a 400 ms delay. In the very least it seems like Champion is appropriately responsive to consumer problems.Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread Wayne Dohnal wrote: I think it's pretty clear now that the CPE2000i has carved out a new power class for name-brand inverter generators (unless the Yamaha 2000 is more or less the same, which I don't know). It's similar to the situation of the Yamaha 2400 being in its own power class. While the CPE2000i isn't a Honda 2000 killer, I think it should be a pretty effective Honda 1000 killer. At the risk of discussing generators contrary to the official thread I will pipe in a little here with the perspective of some anecdotal experience. Since my 2000i champion inverter unexpectedly died a couple of weeks ago with a 153 hours on the clock I wrestled with the idea of getting another but ultimately drank some blue koolaid and now have a Yamaha EF2000is powering my cabin. Despite having very similar engine displacemet specs the Yamaha is definitely a different animal. It powers my 13 amp skil saw from eco with no hesitation(no feathering required) and I was even able to start/run my 12000 BTU portable A/C unit on the single yamaha unit, from eco none the less. The champion came nowhere close to starting either tool/appliance at full engine speed without going into overload. I firmly beleive the champion engine is capable but the inverter software/tech is not there yet. Maybe in a future version but right now IMHO Champion is it's own sub class.Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator ThreadThanks for all the kind replies. I did indeed check the usual items such as gas cap switch, oil level, fresh gas. I actually cleaned the spark arrest screen about 30 hours ago, so it's ok. It's a no spark at the plug issue. It may be a dislodged connector somewhere, I don't know I looked pretty extensively. I probably spent somewhere between 2-3 hours taking it apart and trying to pinpoint a source for the problem and basically came to my limit of time invest ment into a problem I am pretty confident I did not cause. I am officially declaring it fubared and Champion can do the autopsy if they wish. I really liked this generator and am torn about getting it replaced for another vs trying the Honda koolaid.Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator ThreadI write this from the cabin with some sadness as it seems my little champion inverter has died on me with just a little over 153 hours on the clock. When I got up to the cabin this weekend. It fired up for about a minute, then it ran rough and stopped and won't start now. I spent the better part of a couple of hours taking her apart and determing fuel and flow was ok and that it appears to be an electrical problem, no spark. Not having my multimeter with me, all I could do is visually verify that I had enough oil, spark plug/wire seemed ok, and all the electrical connections appeared intact. Back to Costco it will go. I have been running my champion 3k non inverted genny for the last 36 hour. Gosh that generator with close to 800 hours is a real reliability champ. I just wish it was not so much louder and thirstier the inverter. I definitely see another 2k inverter in my future just not too sure it's going to be a champion as I am obviously disapointed with my inverter's early demise.Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator ThreadBeen away a couple of months and took me quite some time to catch up on alot of neat discussion. Now onto my anecdotal testimony :D I have had the champion inverter generator up to my northern cabin quite a few times this winter. I usually power the cabin with a small solar array and a modest battery bank. However, since I don't heat the cabin between visits and the temps not to infrequently drop to minus 30C I find cold starting my propane furnace for several hours puts a huge strain on the cold weakened battery bank. So this winter I just ran the cabin with only the champion 2k inverter providing electricity around the clock without stop except for fuel during my typical 36-48 hours stays. I now have a little over 140 hours on the little champion generator and have no bad news to report. Typically when I get to my cabin I run my furnace(2.6 amps for both the exhaust and furnace fans) a solid 2-3 hours to get the cold soaked cabin up to temp after that it typically cycles every 20 minutes for 10 or so minutes. I run a small refrigerator at 1.6 amps, it cycles for about 15 minutes every hour, sat box(0.5 amps contant on) and LCD TV(1.3 amps) for 3-4 hours in evening and 1.7 amps worth of lights for 5-6 hours in the evening. So that adds up to a total of just under 7KW/24hours or hour averaged at around 300 watts/hr. I consistently get 9-10 hours on a full tank. When it was warmer and I had no furnace running I would get up 12 hours on a tank on what would be a low load scenario. Additonally it typically only requires 30-60 seconds of choke to start even on the coldest Canadian winter night. That is all the observations I have to offer, good fuel economy and so far it has not exploded, smoked or given me any other reliability concerns. I appreciate 140 hours is not alot but so far so good.Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread Old & Slow wrote: Dudley, looking at your profile you give us the name of 'Dudley Przemek' it's interesting you have only 4 posts to this thread and RV.NET all are about the Champion? Happy New Year to all! Wow, I think if I read your post correctly you are insinuating that I am somehow affiliated or have an interest in Champion other than owning a couple of their generators. I will tell upfront that this is not the case. The only reason I have 4 posts in the Champion thread is that this is only thread I am interested in contributing my two bits on as an actual owner of said generator. Should I post questions about what kind of antifreeze I should use in my trailer before I post any useful information regarding topics that really interest me? Or do you just approve of authoratative anecdotal posts from people with high post counts that don't actually own any of the products that they have an opinion on? Happy New Year to you to sir!Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator ThreadI just got Costco winter coupons, looks like the 2K champion inverter will $100 off or $399 from March 21-27. Looks like a smokin good reason to pick up a second unit.Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator ThreadDWH, I pretty much agree with your statement and despite using the Champion inverter for an admittedly limited time I honestly can not see similar Honda or Yamaha generators holding any techincal advantage over the Champion inverter generator based on fuel consumption, capacity to produce stated power or sound abatement. As far as longevity, I honestly can't say. Ask me again in 5 years. At this point I only have my anecdotal experience with my now 4-5 year old 2800 watt(1st generation) open framed Champion with over 700 hrs to rely on. Other than attention to infrequent oil changes and a recently broken pull cord it still starts on first pull with choke and chugs along reliably like it did on day one. I honestly think the Champion inverter genny is one of the first Chinese generators to give Red and Blue inverters an honest run for their money and look forward to the competition responding in justifing their premium price and hopefully raising the technical bar.Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread -=dwh=- wrote: Hi Guys, So...I'm very interested in real world reports of run times on the Champion if anyone has some to report. I'm also interested to hear a confirmation that the Champion has a true variable throttle rather than a hi-lo like the Kipor. I just back from my northern cabin. I ran the 2K champion inverter 24 hours straight powering light loads, battery charger, 27 inch lcd tv, sat box, a few lights, forced air propane furnace, few minutes with 900 watt microwave and was pleasantly surprised with the 14 hours run time in eco mode on the one gallon tank. This seems exactly on par to the Honda 2K EU - with no load economy of 15 hours on 1.1 gallons runtime. As far as throttle, it seemed like it was variable but honestly I did not pay that much attention to it. I also eagerly await the professor's progress with the aux tank modifications.
