Original owner bought it new, parked it in a year-round RV park, and it never left until he sold it. It is like brand new inside! No leaks, no tears, everything checked out and works fine. What your really doing is either saving your money for the kids, or into an activity you can not afford. Try splurging just once in your life, buy that item you want, take care of it and enjoy it for years. The one thing you all are missing is the higher resale value the diesel offers. I sprang for the diesel for the power, and fuel economy. Now that the truck has been paid off for some time, I can enjoy the fuel savings and higher resale. There is no way a big block is going to get 22 mpg solo, or have the power of a turbo diesel. Bet my latest purchase would really send you cheapskates reeling, brand new corvette convertible. Did I need this car, no. Is this car practical, no. Do I enjoy it,YES! Sometimes ya just get what you want because you want it. I get to live this life one time, I plan to enjoy it to the max. A smoky burnout with the top down an hitting 60 mph in 4.2 seconds is something that is priceless to me. Yea I guess I should have saved my money. When old I could be saying I could have instead of I did. Enjoy your time hoarding for the rainy day if you like, not me. Just the opposite of everthing written here is what allowed me to semi-retire early. Being cheap has nothing to do with it. It's all about my financial IQ! I hardly hoard for a rainy day, but I do rest easy in the fact that in my 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's, and hell, even my 80's if I make it that far, I can buy what I want, when I want, be it a new diesel or a new Vette. I live my life to the fullest every day, and one of the things I can directly contribute that to is being financially wise with how I spent my money and where it went. I really don't give a hoot about resale value either. Why in the world would I want to get rid of something I just got? I don't buy something just to sell it later on. Another reason that I could retire early. A quote that is taped to my monitor: "There are two kind of people today; those who pay interest, and those who earn interest. Which would you rather be?" I lived my life to save and invest first, then spend what's left over. My "poor" buddies, who all have nice new toys every couple of years and are in debt up to their eyeballs and beyond, believe in spending first and then saving what's left over. Unfortunately for them, that is usually little to nothing. To them, it's all about the status symbols they possess. I don't need a status symbol, I need something that can do what I need done!! They rib me for not buying a brand new "xxxx", but then can't figure out how we can disappear to Panama a couple times a year. Hmmmm...... They don't understand that the choices I made back then directly relate to what I can do now, and in the future. He who dies with the most toys.....still dies. Buy what you want, but don't call me cheap. If you can afford it, more power to ya! It's your money, your future. I look forward to a bright one myself. :B My kids have their own investment accounts, so they don't need our money.Re: Diesel vs gas...................... Well, maybe to our property in the Black Hills. But that is being saved for later on in life...... :B I could have just as easily bought a diesel just as I did the 1500HD, but like I said, just didn't have a need for it. Still don't. Just for grins, I drove through Markley Motors lot last night. The sticker price on an 06 2500HD D/A was $47,400!!! Holy cr*p!!!! I know it could be bought for less than sticker, but holy cr*p!!! Oh well, I like my truck. I figure if the motor or trans ever lets go, I'll just replace it and keep on driving! I'd be interested in your cost savings comparison.Re: Diesel vs gas......................I guess I just don't tow enough to justify a initial cost of a diesel. My 02 GMC 1500HD gives me plenty of power to tow my 20' enclosed snowmobile trailer with 3 sleds, as well as my RV trailer. Just about everyplace we go is uphill. Going snowmobiling is from 5600' here at the house to 8700' to Albany, Wyo. When there is no speed contest involved :B, I always pull into the Shamrock station the same time as my brother (05 Dodge Cummings chipped and other mods). I get slowed down a little on the big hills, but nothing bad. Pulling milage is 10-12mpg, and the wind really determines which one it is! Considering I paid $14,500 cash for my 02 GMC 1500HD with 60K on it, I am very happy. I run synthetic everything for extended change intervals, it's never gave me a problem there. We go snowmobiling almost every weekend when the weather is good, and pull the RV about 6-8 times during the warmer months. IF I ever buy a diesel, it will definately be a 2-4 year old truck. But that is a big if, for now I just don't need one. I never buy a new vehicle, I'll let someone else take the hit first.;) I live for those that trade in their vehicles every 3 or so years for another brand new one. Financing a vehicle is just not in my vocabulary either.
