Does the Jayco have a 60X80 Queen bed? Nope, the bed in my Jayco 28BHBE seems to be 60x74.Re: Rentering the RV lifestyle. Questions on Bunkhouse TT's.We went with a Jayco Jay Flight 28BHBE, similar floor plan as posted previously. Ours is optioned well, it comes in at 7050# unloaded. Our kids are 12 and 10, and they love the full size bunks. The master bedroom has a door as well for privacy. The other big plus is that it has a huge full-size shower. We tow it fine with an F150 4x4. If that's too heavy, there is similar floor plan in the Jay Flight Swift line and the lightweight fiberglass line as well. Re: Can you help me crunch numbers? F150, 9600 tow capacityI am pulling the rig in my signature, the trailer weighs in at 7500# - 7700# loaded, and I am within all of my capacity numbers, using an Equalizer WDH. My truck is an XLT with a 1625# payload. The upper F150 trim lines like the HD, Platinum, etc take a big hit in payload due to the options. I have seen some as low as 1100# payload, which is really low. I wouldn't have any problem with the setup you are looking at....Re: Be careful hitching upSorry to hear about your neighbor, hope he recovers. It's not too hard to overlook this sort of thing, especially if you are tired. When I was younger and worked for a contractor, I plowed snow in the winter time. I had been plowing in a big storm for over 30 hours straight, going from job to job, apartments and office buildings. I was exhausted. I was at an apartment complex parking lot, and got out of the truck for something, don't remember what now. I put on the parking brake, but accidentally left it in drive. With my back to the vehicle, it started rolling, and the plow blade clipped the back of 7 different vehicles, including a Mercedes, two BMWs and a Jaguar. Not a good day....it happens though. Thankfully, nobody was hurt. I managed to keep my job, but I heard gaff about that incident for years afterward...and the insurance company was none too happy...Re: Changing ps tires to LT tires? Which ones? sheripoms wrote: Ohh ok,, didnt think about the transfer of weight on to the front tires also. Well crud,, thats another 500.00. Maybe I can find some real good used ones. Hmmm Also which brand would you recommend? Another $500?? Not sure what brands you are looking at, but in 265-70-17 there are numerous LRE tires available that are not that expensive. On treaddepot.com, I see (plus shipping of course, unless they are on special)- Cooper Discoverer HT3- $149 each Pirelli Scorpion ATR - $149 each General Grabber HTS - $153 each, and AT2 $164 each Kumho Road Venture AT KL78 - $162 each (I have these and are very happy with them, most reviews are 4-5 star in all areas, plus $100 mail-in rebate right now). If you want to go with Michelin, BFG, Goodyear, etc you will pay more for the name....Re: Can you tell from sticker if it has max tow packageI have a 2012 F150 XLT Supercrew 4x4 5.5' bed. 5.0 w/3.55 rear. My GVWR is 7350# and payload is 1625#, standard tow package. I'm pulling a Jay Flight 28BHBE, 7000# dry and around 7800# loaded. Tongue weight is around 900# depending on how I load the trailer, using a 1K/10K Equalizer hitch. It pulls and handles just fine and I'm within my capacities, although close. The 5.0 puts out a goood bit of torque, it's not far off the EcoBoost although the curve is different, obviously. I was in your position looking for the Max Tow package, at the time the 6.2 was not available, and I didn't want an EcoBoost. The Lariat, Platinum and upper trim lines will cost you a good bit of payload, so I wouldn't be looking at those if you want a "truck" to tow and haul with. I'm pretty happy with mine as it is. Unless you are towing bigger than mine, I wouldn't sweat it on the Max Tow package....Re: Purchasing first TT, need opinions on model and tow helpIf you feel that the Jay Flight 28BHBE is too heavy, Jayco also makes a Jay Flight Swift in a similar floorplan, the 267BHS. It is much lighter an 5315# UVW and 675# hitch. The full-size double bunks are an option. http://www.jayco.com/products/travel-trailers/jay-flight-swift/floorplans-specsRe: Purchasing first TT, need opinions on model and tow helpWe have a new 2013 28BHBE, we are towing it with a 2012 F150 5.0 XLT 4x4 Supercrew. Our trailer as optioned weighs in at 7068# according to the decal on the door, take a look at yours because the trailer options add significant weight. We are using an Equalizer 1k/10k WD hitch. Your tow capacities are not too far off from ours, I might have a bit more payload at 1625#. We haul very little fresh water, just so the kids can use the potty if there is nowhere to stop. We travel with the other tanks empty. We generally do short trips, 200 miles or less. I think you'd be fine with a WD hitch set up correctly. Don't haul anything that you don't really need, try to keep your weight as low as possible.Re: Kodiak 2014 279RBSL Looks like a lemonOur first RV was a 2006 Kodiak 30BHSL bunkhouse. It was a disaster as well, I see that they have not goten any better. Mine was missing caulk in several places on the outside, the bunkhouse door and water heater opening leaked massively. The bunk mattress was replaced by the dealer. The slide also leaked from day one and never stopped leaking. Our first night in it, the kids were afraid of sleeping in the the bunks, so my 5-year old son slept on the jack knife sofa. It was bolted into a plywood platform using undersize lag bolts. In the middle of the night the bolts tore out of the plywood and the couch flipped, my son rolled off into the stove and cut his head open. I fixed that with hex bolts w/washers when we got home. Then slowly, the frame started bending towards the back, due to the infamous BAL Norco aluminum frame. The countertop started to bend visibly, you could sit a level on it, and the level would rock. No help from Dutchmen/THOR, out of warranty, although it was a known issue at that point, many of the 28ft+ units were bending due to this frame. My understanding was, the fix was to add additional outriggers towards the rear. I gave up on this disaster in 2008, and traded it in for a new Jayco...what a difference in quality! Only had one minor issue and Jayco authorized the fix under warranty. We just traded that Jayco on a new 2013 Jay Flight 28BHBE for more room, and couldn't be happier. I will not own anything THOR ever again, unless it's an Airstream. And it's too bad they acquired Airstream, I hope it doesn't ruin the good Airstream name or quality...
