Ive towed a travel trailer with a hitch weight of roughly 825 and it was very comfortable, ive found a few light 5th wheel campers I like and was wondering what would be a good pin weight to stay around. My truck is a 2014 gmc sierra 1500 crew cab with 3.42 gear and 1680 available payload. I only travel alone im 150 add 200 for full fuel so that knocks it down to about 1300-1330 ish. Ive found some that are 1250 I like but I also have to count in the weight of the bed receiver which I have no clue how much that weighs. Would I be cutting it to close? or should I just stay with the TT's?Re: 2014 sierra 1500/ keystone cougar 33resThanks guys.Re: 2014 sierra 1500/ keystone cougar 33resI'm fine with heavy weights. And it will get moved anywhere from 50-400 miles depending on where my next job is, every 3 months.2014 sierra 1500/ keystone cougar 33resThe truck has a 1608 lb payload according to the door sticker. Truck has the 5.3 6 speed auto and 3.42's. I plan on buying a airbag kit with onboard compressor. Think this trailer is to much for my truck? The only things that will be on my truck is me and a basically empty toolbox. Maybe 100lbs with a few tools. I weight 165. 26 gal fuel = 155-160 ish. I think I'm fine with trailer weight. Tounge weight is up there. But I am willing to relocate everything to the rear of the TT to keep the weight of the tounge during moves. Trailer in question. http://www.keystonerv.com/cougar-xlite/models/33res/model-mobileRe: New truck. looking for advice. That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you Ron.Re: carrying weight on rear bumper to offset tounge weight. The TT I'm looking at is 6450 with a tw of 745 so that's 11.56 percent on the tounge. So that's good.Re: carrying weight on rear bumper to offset tounge weight.I don't plan on having anything in my truck to add weight. I mentioned in another thread about my tool box but that's very light. I'm not sure of my wheel base. Its a crew cab short box 4wd.Re: carrying weight on rear bumper to offset tounge weight. Thanks for the advice guys. I do have a WD hitch. I also travel alone for work and only use the trailer for sleeping. So if I put something in the back there is a good chance it would stay. Tounge weight is 750lbs dry and I wouldn't carry water. I think I might be okay. Will have to just hook up and see. The dealer is offering to let me try it on open road.Re: carrying weight on rear bumper to offset tounge weight.Yes and no I was not aware of that or how much weight could be carried on it. Even if I stored the stuff inside the camper during travel. Would this idea be beneficial? Or am I just dreaming here.carrying weight on rear bumper to offset tounge weight.Through all of my searching I've found some trailers with good dry weight but kinda heavy on the tounge. I do want to carry tools and stuff with me and have a few other ideas that I want to do that will add overall weight and was thinking if I mounted a toolbox on the rear of the TT or built a box to store my more heavy gear in, that should counter some of the tounge weight. Have any of you done this?
