Heavier tire/rim combination may wear axles and hubs faster. I had to upgrade shocks to ones with heavier dampening. 2. Rougher ride unloaded with Load Range G or H tires verses Load Range E. 3. Poor performance in soft sand or snow since they cannot be aired down enough to flatten the tread and widen the footprint. 4. Some tire combinations may be taller resulting in wheel well clearance issues (GM trucks) or taller gearing. 5. Requires a higher quality air compressor to maintain 100+ PSI tire pressures. Positives: 1. Greater weight capacity possible with SRW. 2. Longer tread wear than LT tires. 3. Better road hazard immunity due to heavier carcass. 4. Less sway and bounce when loaded due to stiffer side walls. 5. Good road, mud and snow traction if the appropriate tread is selected. All true and good points. My tread being a little softer than typical 19.5's and the tread pattern it is, works great in off road and snow as well as wet or dry roads. Love them! Most air compressors are 120-150 psi so the pressure thing isn't a issue for most people. Gas station compressors are the biggest issue there in my opinion. Yes heavier shocks help a lot since the unsprung weight is greater. My truck rides better than my friends identical truck with 16" tires as long as my bags are aired down. I only run 70 psi in my tires it's all they need for what I do. To me it's as good as having a 4500-5500 series truck in a smaller more maneuverable package and better ride quality (with air bags adjusted properly for the load) to me it's a win-win. I run 4.10 gears and 5 speed. Yes they are heavy but my gearing helps make up for that. Works good for me.Re: 19.5 Tires or Not??TreadWright.com My wheels are from a GM P30 bread truck with the center holes machined larger for Dodge/Ford hubs.Re: 19.5 Tires or Not??19.5's here and NEVER looking back! 4,500# each tire (14 ply) and my dually handles anything I throw at it like a boss! My truck plows snow in the winter, and year round tows a 30' tri axle bumper pull 2-car trailer, which is 7k empty with empty tongue weight @ 1,000 lb. pulls it like a dream. I do run air bags in back that helps a ton too! I wouldn't consider anything else. Tires I run are TreadWright Guard Dog MT these are a high quality recap using a 14 ply Good Year carcass for stability and a light duty tire compound which gives excellent traction and improved ride (softer compound than virgin 19.5's would have). Tread pattern is identical to Good Year Wrangler MTR and they are AWESOME tires! They have excellent traction in any weather. Also just under $1,000 for all 6 to my door! They are 245/7019.5 which comes out to 33.5x9.5 basically.Re: 1972 Amerigo Camper Rebuild Sweet Tater wrote: about hours west of Chat on hwy 72 Is that one hour or did you forget to put a number of hours? You can PM me with the town an I can mapquest it. More pics.... Got the gas system completely hooked up and working, fridge lights perfect and gets cold fast on gas! Furnace pilot assembly needed cleaned out but works great now. Water heater gas valve is junk. The whole thing Is so old I will just use the whole unit from parts camper so now every appliance is from parts camper. Keep in mind I am not restoring the camper at this point in time just trying to make it usable for a couple trips, it will get restored later. Therefore I'm not wasting time to make everything super pretty just functional and reliable as quickly and inexpensively as possible. Got a Thetford Campa Potti, inexpensive and has its own tanks, flushes, should do the job. Got a nice shower head/wand at Menards on clearance it has pause button and push button pattern changes. I like it. Re: 1972 Amerigo Camper RebuildWagonQueen! That's the spirit!!!!! Awesome!!! Yes pics pics pics!!!! Dave McQueen's is for sale for $10,500 which honestly is a deal in my opinion based on the pictures and hype about it!Re: Is this a truck camper?Clever idea for hunting blind!!!! Thread hijack! Now I want to find a very clean one!!! Lol wonder how much they sell for? Some hunting blinds are fairly pricey! Some insulation could be easily added and block off the ventilation, probably would be pretty sweet really! Easily drug with an ATV can't hurt the "blind" they are indestructible.Re: 1972 Amerigo Camper RebuildOh, the toilet supply line you see, I'm thinking of putting some type of sprayer nozzle on it and using it as a foot rinse off attachment lol little more convenient than messing with the shower wand. Hey it's already there and has a valve, why not use it right? LolRe: 1972 Amerigo Camper RebuildWayne, it is galvanized, and you have a good point, but we won't be drinking from the tank... Bottled water is cheap, convenient, consistent in taste and quality, and fits in fridge/cooler a whole lot better lol For those who aren't familiar with the expansion tank mod, this not only gives 2 gallons extra water capacity but it prevents pump from "bumping" or running at short bursts when faucet open partway. It also allows you to run faucet for a moment before pump kicks on so if you just need a rinse, the pump doesn't need to cycle. Great mod and easy to do, coupled with soft pump lines these two will dramatically improve the performance and your level of satisfaction with the water system. I should do a write up on the mod to break it down. I think everyone who uses their pump should do it! LolRe: 1972 Amerigo Camper RebuildThose look great! We are going to gatlinburg an Chattanooga. How far from you is that? I got work done today! Took water heater out and found rotted wood under it and where tie down anchor is. Knocked it all out, evicted the ants, and replaced the wood. New tie down eye bolt, reseal water heater and reinstalled. Got furnace mounted, just needs gas line plumbed and outside vent attached. And got toilet removed too. I'm a bit behind on taking pics but here's some more... Re: 1972 Amerigo Camper RebuildSweet tater that'd be awesome! How bout front window while you're at it? Lol I got most of the plumbing wrapped up. Swapped tank from donor TC, plumbed pump with soft lines and installed 2 gallon expansion tank (that and soft pump lines my favorite two water mods in a camper!) and got a waste dump valve installed so gray can backup into black tank. New kitchen faucet installed since other one leaked. I need to get more pics. Electrical is all done. Furnace is next to install and gotta pull water heater to redo the tie down anchor there. Then to go over gas system and check it out. Then more cleaning and re-sealing on outside. I moved it from side yard to carport. It's a heavy SOB! Looks monstrous even on my big dodge dually!
