We had to put both of our furbabies down last year....one in the beginning and the other at the end. So very sorry for having to say goodbye to Petunia. I know too well the sadness you feel at this time!!Re: Hello LouisianaYou must indulge in crawfish, gumbo and boudin while there! Not a true experience if you leave that out of your visit!!Re: FireplaceHaven't had an RV with a fireplace, until we take delivery on our new one soon! At first when we saw them at the RV shows, I thought they were kinda cheesy......but camping with friends & family who have them, and actually enjoying their benefit has changed my mind! The new 5th wheel we're purchasing has the fireplace mounted beneath the entertainment center, which is on a slide that also houses the outside entertainment center. This setup utilizes space efficiently, IMO! We've used the cube heaters and I found them to be obnoxiously in the way, so I'm excited to have ambiance and heat to enjoy tucked along the wall!Re: Unusual places you have stayed the night.Back in 1967, my parents took us on a month long vacation from Texas to Quebec, Canada where we attended Expo '67 then back down thru Boston, New York, and Washington DC, my Dad had converted a school bus into a motorhome! While in Washington, after visiting one of the Smithsonians we were parked on Pennsylvania Ave having dinner when a police officer knocked on the door. The officer told my Dad no staying allowed so my Dad asked where the closest campground was. The officer was obviously very curious about our bus, so Daddy invited him in! Wow, was he surprised at the inside! It looked like a commercially built RV, he was so impressed, he told us we could stay there all night, he would inform the next shift so we wouldn't be disturbed!! Was the coolest thing ever!! Bet you wouldn't get away with that today!!Re: Michigan to Mt Rushmore, South DakotaNever thought about going up the UP then across. We live in SE Michigan.....metro Detroit area and would be traveling first of July during shutdown to meet up with my kids and grandloves who live in Colorado. We plan on seeing all sights in the area of Mt Rushmore, planning on about 5 days to be tourists!! With any of the suggested routes, what reasonable drive time are we looking at? I was thinking at most, 3 days??Re: Michigan to Mt Rushmore, South DakotaKennedy64.....my Daddy was a Shriner! Every year we always went to the Shriner's Circus, a big fund raiser in Houston! They do a lot to help children with medical needs!! Glad your daughter was able to receive treatment! We've driven the I94/I80 exchange many times going to Colorado to see my kids, so we're very familiar with that nightmare! Lol! Interesting that I90 could be a bumpy ride in MN. Might be worth it to avoid then?Re: Unloading the inside to trade it in !!We're going thru the same thing too! Amazing how much stuff we collected over the years!! Some we will transfer from old to new at the dealerdhip, the rest we will pack after we take selivery.Michigan to Mt Rushmore, South DakotaIs it better to take I90 to South Dakota from Michigan or to go I80 across then head north at Omaha? Not sure what the drive around Chicago will be like and if it would be better to stay farther south to avoid it.Re: New Grand Design Reflections RS296 more days till we close the deal and have our PDI. The challenge is going to be getting our Laredo out of the back yard with all the snow so we can trade it in, and no warming trend anytime soon to start the spring melt! Can't even think about taking possession of the new rig till then. No way will we be able to get it in our yard!! Ugh....I'm so over this winter weather!! Congrats on the new RS and also on the new puppy!Re: First TripDepends on what accomodations you will have on the road. If you will have stays along the way with water/electric for example, then you really won't need to carry a lot of on board water. We always carry some, just in case...you never know if you will run into situations beyond control that will limit your resources. May not need to carry full tank, but IMHO carry some on board just in case!
