No problems and the outside temp. was 100+ most of the way. I did downshift to keep revs at or near 2000, the heat gauge didn't get above midway. Secret is don't get in a hurry and use your flashers below 45 mph. Just sit back and enjoy the scenery, it's beautiful.Re: new doghouse out of wood?Repairing the FG is much easier than building a replacement out of plywood, especially if the original has rounded edges or corners. FG repairs are easy and usually requires basic skills. I use standard auto kits available at any parts store.Re: Wire eating miceThanks for the input, I'll try a couple of these today.Wire eating miceSomewhere in the past I read about a solution you could spray into the engine bay on the motor home that mice and other rodents did not like . I've searched the archives with no result. Does anyone have a tip.Re: LP wtr heater, CO alarmIn reply to the suggestions: Checking the date on CO detector found Sept 1999. It was used at high altitude all three occasions, above 4000 feet. Next step is to get new detector, check for burner flame color and restriction in burner tube.LP wtr heater, CO alarmI have 2000 Itasca Horizon 36 DP. The last three times I've used the LP water heater the CO alarm has gone off. It works well with AC power but unable to use LP option that has worked very well for past several years. Any idea where to look? I can't find any path for the gas to get into the coach.Re: 1998 Safari SaharaYou may want to check if the previous owner was aware of the bearing on the fan of the 3126 CAT that needs lubed. IF he didn't lube it by now it surely failed, or worse, is getting ready to fail. Other than that the engine is one of the best, very dependable.Re: Cat 300 running hot on gradeaI've driven a 300 hp CAT for 15 years and if you go up hills at full, or near full, throttle it will heat up. You have to keep a close eye on the gauge, when it starts to heat up you just downshift and slow down. My fan is direct drive and the only way to cool the engine is to bring up the revs. In some cases I'm in the truck lane but I don't overheat and we get to where we're going without a tow.Re: Allison 3000 transmissionIt is a 3000 Allison. At the time of failure I didn't check the level at the shift pad as my mindset was it was just serviced by the dealer. Surely they put oil back in it (but now I wonder if they did)Re: Allison 3000 transmissionThis change was made by Freightliner during a transmission service. They were supposed to do filters and fluid. I started on a 2000 mile trip the next day but the shift and performance were way off. It felt like the transmission was slipping. The turning point was one morning as we left an RV park with a slight uphill grade. The MH would not pull the hill, the engine revved but wouldn't make it up without getting a run at it. We went back to SD Freightliner and they drained the fluid and changed the filters. The unit ran perfect straight from the garage and has had no problems since. The Allison was manufactured Sept. 99 and has been serviced as per manual, and was never a problem before. (San Diego Freightliner now has a policy of not working on any MH's over ten years old, as does San Diego La Mesa RV)
